Call to Order/ Roll Call Vice Chair Cornell called the meeting to order at 5:36 pm. Commissioners Present: Comell, Redo, Bolles, Deavenport, Knowlton, Liston, Smith, Voorhees Commissioners Absent: Vinson Staff Present: Reinhart, Todd, Noguera Others Present: Dency Souval, Lupita Jimenez 2. Approval of Minutes Motion was rade (Voorhees) to approve the minutes of the November 13, 2006 meeting. Motion was seconded (Knowlton) and approved unanimously. 0 3. Old Business a. Update on 24 Hour fitness Public Art Selection - Todd The final artist selection has been made and there is a request to re -work the design of the piece. The purchaser and owner of the eventual public art piece will be 24 Hour Fitness Corporation. b. Bayfront Planning Update — Cornell No updates to report. 4. New Business a. January 16 2007: City Council Meeting on Arts Master Plan — Reinhart Commissioners Redo, Bolles and Deavenport will orally present an overview of the Arts Master Plan to the City Council. This is a great opportunity to get the public involved and give them the chance to speak about the plan. Speaker request forms will be available and each speaker will have a five- minute limit. b. McCandliss Awards 2007 Planning — Redo Commissioners Deavenport, Liston and Smith will be on this year's McCandliss Awards committee (Deavenport to chair). Eligible candidates for the student awards must be interested in pursuing a career in the arts, a graduating high school senior and a resident of Chula Vista. Other award criteria remains the same as previous years. Page 1 of 3 c. Report from new Portof San Diego Public Art Committee's City o€ Chula Vista Representative Representative Dency Souval discussed that the Port has funds available to purchase non -permanent public art pieces for the Port tidelands areas within Chula Vista. A continuance of last year's Banner Project will be proposed to the Port, along with a proposal to purchase some of the pieces currently on display as part of Urban Trees 3 project on the Embarcadero. 5. Staff Updates a. Taste of the Arts 2007 Planning Update - Todd A smaller version of the Taste of the Arts festival will take place on May 20, 2007 in Memorial Park and Parkway Recreation Center. The festival will include two stages, artist vendors, children's interactive zone, and two juried arts exhibits. Memorial Park and Bowl is the main venue and Parkway Gym will be used for the art show. b. Day of the Child 2007 Planning Update- Todd The Office of Arts and Culture is collaborating with the Day of the Child event on Saturday, April 21. The event is at Memorial Park and will include children's activities and booths. More information will be available at the next meeting. c. Concert in the Park 2007 Planning Upddate - Todd The contracts have been mailed to the 13 music groups. The concerts will take place on the first Sunday of the month starting in June and ending in August at Salt Creek, Veterans and Memorial Parks. d. Rancho Del Rey Library Update- Reinhart The City Council has not approved the final budget for the project. The Chula Vista Public Library Foundation will be working on fund raising efforts for the sculpture garden project at RDR. 6. Oral Communications Commissioner Redo inquired about the disposition of the Vogue Theater. He would also like comments from the Public Art Subcommittee on the revisions requested for the final art piece selected for 24 Hour Fitness. Commissioner Voorhees suggested that Oral Communications be placed before Old Business on the agenda if someone from the public is attending the meeting. Commissioner Redo inquired about moving the meeting time to 5:45pm.
