MINUTES OF
CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Monday, 5:45 p.m. Library Conference Room
December 10, 2007 Chula Vista Public Library Civic Center Branch Library
1. Call to Order/ Roil Call
Chair Voorhees called the meeting to order at 5:49 p.m.

Staff Present: Reinhart, Noguera

2. Approval of Minutes
Motion was made (Commissioner Cornell) and seconded (Commissioner
Deavenport) to approve the minutes of the October 8 meeting. Motion was
carried unanimously.
3. Oral Communications
There were no oral communications.
4. Old Business
a. City of Chula Vista Beautification Awards
Commissioner Cornell attended the ceremony and has pictures if the
commissioners would like to see them.
5. New Business
a. Report on City Budget & Library Personnel Changes - Reinhart
Staff member Reinhart briefly discussed the following items regarding the City
budget and library personnel changes:
There were enough budget reductions to balance the 2008/2009 budget. The
budget for 2007/2008 still needs to be balanced.

Most vacant positions in the City will not be immediately replaced with the
exception of a few positions.
Ric Todd's position as Cultural Arts Coordinator will be reduced to a half-time
position and will not be filled until after the end of the current fiscal year.
As of December'! 28, 'staff member Reinhart will be assuming new duties new as
the Assistant Library Director.
Leah Browder will be the Acting Library Director in the beginning of January. A
national search for a new library director will likely take place in the spring.
The Civic Center and South Branch libraries will have new hours starting January
7.
6. Staff Updates
a. Public Art Repair Update - Reinhart
Repairs to the "Tree of Life" art piece that is located at the Nature Center have
started. The paint will be removed to the bare metal and will be re -done with an
automotive -type paint that will cost about $800.
b. Taste of the Arts '08 Planning - Reinhart
Target will sponsor the event along with First Bank.
All participant contracts have been mailed and returned. Ten featured artists
have been confirmed.
c. Performing and Visual Arts Grant Application Period Report - Reinhart
The application is available on-line and is due on January 25, 2008. Following
after January 25, the applications will go through a screening process.
d. McCandliss Awards Planning -Reinhart
Along with the Community, Organization and Literary Arts Awards, a posthumous
award may be considered. The student stipend award will be a smaller amount
this year.
e. Report from Port of San Diego Public Art Committee's City of Chula Vista
Representative — Reinhart for Souval
The request for the installation of the Urban Tree public art "The Fisherman" at
the bayfront has been approved; it still has to go to the Port.

7. Adjournment
Adjournment was made at 6:40 p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting
will be held at 5:45 p.m on Monday, January 14, 2008 in the Library Conference
Room of the Civic Center Library.
