CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Monday, 5:45 p.m. Library Conference Room

1. Call to Order/ Roll Call
Chair Voorhees called the meeting'to order at 5:48 p.m.

2. Approval of Minutes
Reinhart, Noguera, Browder
Souval
Motion was made (Commissioner Deavenport) and seconded (Commissioner
Knowlton) to approve the minutes of the January 14 meeting. Motion was carried
unanimously.
3. Oral Communications
Port Public Art Committee Representative Dency Souval briefly talked about the
National Arts Program. Residents of the South Bay and all City of Chula Vista
employees are eligible to participate. The artworks submitted would be part of a
juried exhibition that will be displayed in the Parkway gymnasium. Please
encourage everyone to participate in the program.
4. Old Business
There was no old business to discuss.
5. New Business
a. Brainstorming Exercise with Interim Library Director, Leah Browder
Interim Library Director Leah Browder shared the library's current mission and
vision statement. The commissioners contributed their thoughts and ideas to the
brainstorming exercise.

b. Port Public Art Committee Update
Port representative Souval announced that the Tidelands Banner Project has the
potential for funding. .
6. Staff Update's
a. Taste of the Arts '08 Planning — Reinhart
There are no new updates
b. Performing and Visual Arts Grant Applications — Reinhart
There are a total of 19 qualified applicants for funding. The task force will be
meeting on March 14 to make funding recommendations, which can be reviewed
by the Cultural Arts Commission on April 14.
7. Commissioner Comments
Staff member Reinhart mentioned that Susan O'Shaughnessy would be
replacing Chris Redo as a new Cultural Arts Commissioner. She will be swom in
at the Council meeting on Tuesday, February 11 and will attend her first meeting
in March.
Commissioner Cornell announced that the Bonita Museum is hosting a juried arts
exhibition from March 8 to April 19. A reception will be held on March 8, 6:00 —
7:30.
8. Adjournment
Adjournment was made at 7:17p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting
will be held at 5:45 p.m on Monday, Monday, March 10, 2008 in the Library
Conference Room in the Civic Center Library.
