CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

1. Call to Order/ Roll Call
Commission Chair Voorhees called the meeting to order at 5:49 p.m.

2. Approval of Minutes
Motion was made (Commissioner
Deavenport) to approve the minutes
carried unanimously.
3. Public Comments
Voorhees, Bolles, Deavenport, Glenn,
Knowlton, O'Shaughnessy, Smith

Knowlton) and seconded (Commissioner
of the August 11 meeting. Motion was
Dency Souval announced the formation of The Chula Vista Charitable
Foundation and serves as a function of The San Diego Foundation. This
foundation is a source for grants funding Chula Vista organizations and causes.
Individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to become
contributors.

5. New Business
a. Port Public Art Committee Update — Souval
Port Representative Dency Souval will present an p pdate at the next meeting.

b. Bonitafest
• The Cultural Arts Commission will have a booth at the Bonitafest on Saturday,
September 27. Information for the booth will focus on the existence and
presence of the commission as well as the arts in Chula Vista. Commission
Chair Voorhees will create and e-mail a sign up sheet to man the booth in two -
hours shifts.
c. Commission Goals for 2009 -Voorhees
The discussion of commission goals will take place at the next meeting.
Issues/ideas can be e-mailed to Commission Chair Voorhees or brought to the
meeting.
d. Chula Vista Arts Foundation Update — Bolles
The two meetings in August were canceled. The next meeting is scheduled for
September 10 at 4:00 p.m. in the Gateway Building.
6. Staff Updates
a. Cool Globes
Cool Globes is a non-profit organization established to raise awareness of global
warming. A gallery of globes designed by artists as well as school children from
. around the country will be on display at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
The City of Chula Vista is looking into having six to eight of the globes displayed
at the Civic Center Branch Library.
b. Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy has been postponed until Spring 2009 due to budget
constraints.
c. City Calendar
Staff member O'Halloran will work on obtaining a master city calendar of events.
7. Oral Communications
Commissioner O'Shaughnessy announced that the Bonita Melodrama opens on
September 24 -September 27. There will be a free dinner on opening night at
6:00 p.m.
8. Adjournment
Adjournment was made at 7:01 p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting
will be held at 5:45pm on, Monday, October 13, 2008 in the Library Conference
Room of the Civic Center Library.
