c. Commission Goals for 2009 - Voorhees
MIt was discussed that the commission should do what it can to advocate for the
arts as it relates to their mission and to co-sponsor local events whenever
possible. It was suggested that a Cultural Arts Commission calendar be created
with the year's events on it. A website presence and a brochure would also help
the commission increase their profile in the community.
The Commission would like a list of local art organizations for the purpose of
connecting or forming potential partnerships with these groups. They would also
like an opportunity to have the mayor or city staff to attend a meeting and
address how the commission should operate with limited staff or funding.
Ensuring that a sufficient theatre is built at the new university site and deciding
on the direction of Music in the Park for 2009 should be commission goals.
6. Staff Updates
a. City Calendar
Staff member Love mentioned that he was unable to locate a master calendar of
city events for 2009 and reported that the current city calendar is not yet filled in
with events.
• b. Performing and Visual Arts Grant Application
Staff member Love announced that the 2009 application is almost ready and will
be placed on the library's website. He also agreed to try to publicize the
application on the city's main page, in future issues of e-mail newsletters and
with a press release.
7. Oral Communications
Commissioner Bolles mentioned that the Chula Vista Arts Foundation had a
meeting and set by-laws. They also set aside "at -large" seats on the board that
require money or in-kind services for organizations wishing to fill the seats.
8. There was also a question about who needs to attend Ethics Training. Staff
member Love will contact the mayor's office to get clarification.
Adjournment was made at 7:05 p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting
will be held at 5:45pm on, Monday, December 8, 2008 in the Library Conference
Room of the Civic Center Library.
Respectfully Submitted
