1. Call to Order/ Roll Call
Commission Chair Voorhees called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m.

2. Approval of Minutes

Motion was made (Commissioner Fessia) and seconded (Commissioner
Knowlton) to approve the minutes of the October 13 meeting. Motion was carried
unanimously. ,

5. New Business
a. Mayor Cheryl Cox
Commission Chair Voorhees asked Mayor Cox for suggestions as to the
direction that the Cultural Arts Commission should take in spite of budget
constraints. She suggested the following:
-Be part of the City's Centennial Celebration in October 2011 by including an art
component into the program.
-Become advocates in revitalizing the city.
-Use resources such as historical photos and artifacts that tie in arts and culture
to the city.
-Continue to follow up on the implementation of the Arts Master Plan.

Commissioner Fessia suggested creating or partnering with a foundation specific
to the arts that is run solely by volunteers or take advantage of the existing
foundation and fit it to the needs of the arts in the city.
Staff member Love said he would check into possible existing foundations that
could be partnered with.
b. Port Public Committee Update
Port Representative Souval mentioned that the "Pelicans" sculpture has been
requested to be on display at the Chula Vista bay front.
6. Staff Updates
a. City Budget
Staff member Love updated the Commissioners on the proposed cuts being
made to the library and city. The city will have several meetings in December and
January to discuss the proposals.
b. Design a Library Card Contest
Staff member Love announced that the "Design a Library Card Contest",
sponsored by the Chula Vista Library Foundation has concluded and the two
Cultural Arts Commissioners are needed to judge the entries. Commissioner
Fessia will be a judge for the theme "My First Library Card" which is for
participants from Kindergarten to third grade. Commissioner Liston will be a
judge for the "I Love My Library" for seventh through twelfth graders.

Commissioner Bolles mentioned that the Chula Vista Arts Foundation will have a
meeting on December 12 at 4:00 p.m.
Commissioner Liston mentioned that the San Diego Latino Film Commission
features student films about everyday life issues.
8. Adjournment
Adjournment was made at 7:22 p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting
will be held at 5:45pm on, Monday, January 12, 2009 in the Library Conference
Room of the Civic Center Library.
