Roll Call The meeting was called to order at 1755 hours by Chair Anthony Jemison with the following commissioners present: Sam Avalos, Edna Concepcion, Anthony Jemison and Michael Palomo. Members absent. Anne Cordon (Excused), Juan Celaya (Unexcused). Staff present. Joyce Sculark and Captain Miranda 2. Declaration of Excused/Unexcused Absences Commissioner Cordon is excused for today's meeting; Commissioner Celaya is unexcused. 3. Approval of Minutes It was MSC (Palomo/Concepcion) for March 10, 2004 minutes be accepted and stand approved as received. 4. Public Remarks None 5. Old Business A. Essay Contest • This item will be tabled until next the scheduled meeting June 09, 2004. B. Botterman Award Secretary Sculark will make contact with the Mayor's Office to see when the next Commissioners' Banquet will be scheduled; therefore, formal announcements for 2004 nominations can and will begin. Current information to be updated on website. C. City of Chula Vista Fire Department Captain Miranda received an email from Fire Chief Doug Perry indicating no one fit the criteria in search of honorees during the fire season of 2003 for the Civic Award. D. New Members' Orientation Package This item will be tabled until next the scheduled meeting, June 09, 2004. 6. New Business A. Civic Award There are no nominations for the civic award at this time. B. Culture Arts Commission This item will be tabled until next the scheduled meeting, June 09, 2004. 7. Other Business • A. Written Correspondence Each commissioner received an invitation to the State of the Union Address for the City of Chula Vista to be held at the Memorial Bowl on 06/07/04 at 6:30 p.m. 14 Wk B. Commissioners' Comments Commissioner Jemison conveyed an election for officers of the commission for the fiscal • year 2004-2005 would be made at the June 2004 meeting. C.
