Roll Call The meeting was called to order at 1750 hours by Vice Chairman Anne Cordon with the following commissioners present: Edna Concepcion, Perny Cosca-Reese and Michael Palomo. Staffpresent. Capt. Wedge was out of town at training. 2. Declaration of Excused/Unexcused Absences Commissioner Jemison is excused due to work commitments, Commissioner Celaya is unexcused. 3. Approval of Minutes M/S/C to approve January 12, 2005 meeting minutes with corrected spelling on Botterman Award Recipient Beverly Roush's last name. 4. Public Remarks None. Acknowledgment of Guests None. S. Old Business A. Literary Contest Commissioner Cordon advised she is sending the press release to the Star News. Commissioner Cosca-Reese requested flyer graphics be removed before distribution to seniors to make it easier for them to open and read the file. It was agreed to accommodate her request and to retain the original flyer as well. Commissioner Palomo suggested creating a master contact list for future mailings, which would include civic groups, senior groups, schools and other local organizations. B. Bottenman Award 2004 Commissioner Cosca-Reese inquired as to when Beverly Roush would be notified of her selection as the 2005 recipient. Current protocol states the selection must be routed to the City Clerk's office for Council approval. Chairman Jemison will be asked to send a letter to Ms. Roush once the selection as been approved. C. Mission Statement Commissioner Cordon handed out the current version, which was further revised by the commissioners present. She will present the new statement for further discussion at the March 9, 2005 meeting. • el • . � a 6. New Business Commissioner Palomo offered a moment of silence in honor of the late Joyce Sculark, former HRC secretary and friend. 7. Other Business A. Written Correspondence None B. Commissioners' Comments Commissioner Palomo asked about the feasibility of having 2004 crime statistics given to the Commission, as has been done in the past. Secretary Endaya will confer with Capt. Wedge regarding presentation of this information to the Commission. C. Administrative Staff Comments Secretary Endaya reported Commissioner Martha Doiron with the Commission on Aging requested a copy of the 11/10/04 meeting minutes, which Endaya emailed to her. Commissioners Doiron and Palma attended our 11/10/04 meeting to discuss the issue of representation of disabled adults. The HRC will await further communication from the Aging on Commission; no action is needed at this time. Endaya advised Chairman Jemison has mailed letters to other Human Relations Commissions in the County and City, inviting them to attend our April 13'' meeting. 8.
