July 15, 2003

4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The June minutes were approved as written.
5. ACTION ITEMS
Unfinished Business
a. Mr. Scott Burress
Mr. White had the work from last year and had eight or nine new names to add to the others. The bios are done for this
year. There was a discussion to have the website moved to the City of Chula Vista website to have the pages of the bio's
set up to be viewed from that website.
b. Bridge Naming
A letter was sent on May 22nd to the Chula Vista Planning Department requesting they authorize the naming of the first of
the bridges built by the Otay Ranch Company for veterans whose names are not eligible to be named for streets, but there
has not been a reply regarding the inquiry. Mr. Millikin will wait for three weeks and then he will make phone calls to see
why he hasn't heard anything yet.
c. Veterans Park
A July 31st. meeting is scheduled with Mr. Buck Martin of Parks and Recreation. Mr. Martin seemed receptive to things like
bricks. Mr. White will see about obtaining copies of the drawings.
d. Veterans Home Update
There are 319 residents. They are down to about 25 people to leave from Barstow and then Barstow will be done.
Meanwhile they are anticipating by the end of the month they will be certified for the last week so they will have more
space and they will be able to accept some of the people on the list.
e. CWHSF Update
A check for $10,000.00 has been received. The check fo'r $3500.00 has not been received. Mr. Martin will inquire as to
where the money is.

f. Legislative Reports
As of June 18th, 2003 AB -14 is essentially dead for this year. It did not make it out of the committee.
g. Veteran of the Year,
The notice was not published in the Spotlight as of this meeting. Mr. White is going to contact the Star News to have the
notice printed in it. Before the next meeting in August if no applications have been received, applications from previous
years will be reviewed and a recommendation will be made.
6. COMMUNICATIONS
CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Relief for Gus Hermes: Mr. White will invite five people to next months meeting that might be interested in filling Gus' position.
The people he will be contacting are: Greg Connor, Steve Palma, William Keith, Gene Pellerin, and Donna Jacobo.
COMISSIONERS COMMENTS
The Chula Vista Veterans Commission reelected Robert White as the Chairman for the next year. Stephen Millikin will be the
Vice Chair.
There was a discussion to support a Broadway Fundraiser.
Gus would like to see the City of Chula Vista represented in the Coronado Parade for next year's Fourth of July celebrations.
