January 20, 2004

5. ACTION ITEMS
Unfinished Business
a. Bridge naming
Steve Millikin doesn't have anything to report at this time. Millikin has been assured one of the bridge names and
will follow up.
b. Sam Wolfsdorf
Robert White spoke to Steve Arends, Sam Wolfsdorf was not on the list, which was received from Parks &
Recreation. An email was sent to the City's Webmaster of pictures which were taken for the website. An extra
page will be added for the Veteran's Advisory Commission.
c. Veteran's Biographies
Eastlake High school students are working on the bios. Robert White is working on cleaning up the bios. There
will be a total of 30 names. Robert Alber's and Sam Wolfsdorfs bio has been added.
d. Veteran's Park
Bob White spoke with Buck Martin from Parks and Rec. at the Commissioner's dinner and project is still on track.
He will invite the commissioners to the groundbreaking and dedication, which will be held in June.
e. Veterans Home Update
There are currently 330 residents.
A new awning was just purchased for the woodworking shop.
The Veteran's Home support foundation has an issue with a 26 ft pontoon boat sitting next to the woodworking
shop, which has never been used. Insurance needs to be purchased and City of Chula Vista lawyers need to
review the insurance concerning liability. A waiver needs to be signed by passengers of the boat.
f. Broadway fundraiser
No information from William Poindexter.
• VFW walkathon raised $6,000 for Christmas for veterans in the veteran's home.
City of Coronado donated a $500 check.
g. Memorial Day
' Carmen Fedje is to find out what activities are set for Memorial Day and update in the next meeting.

h. Coronado 4th of July Parade
No action will be taken
i. Golf tournament
Tournament will be held on 04/12/04. Flyers will be distributed throughout the city. Price should be half the cost of
the last tournament because of different location.
Veteran of the Year
Jo David Casillas received the Veteran of the Year proclamation. They gave a very moving speech at the
Commissioner's banquet.
Gus Hermes was also honored at the banquet and received a proclamation.

CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Robert White will not be attending May's VAC meeting.
United Veteran's Counsel meeting will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004.
COMISSIONERS COMMENTS.
Carmen Fedje volunteered to submit an article to the Chula Vista Star requesting names and information of unknown
veterans.
Carmen Fedje mentioned Denise Duchany would like to attend a VAC meeting. She is with the veteran's program at
the state level. An annual report was recommended possibly of the last several years. Patty Wesp keeps records of the
annual reports.
Bobby Price mentioned VFW State Commander is coming to the veteran's home January 30, 2004. He also added the
National Commander will visit the following week.
