APPROVAL OF MINUTES 5. ACTION ITEMS a. William Keith- Mr Keith passed away on May 30`h. There will be a Memorial Service for him on Monday, June 281h at the Veterans Home in the "F" building at 10:00 AM. b. Bridge and Path Naming: Steve Millikin stated that Otay Ranch has nothing to report. c. Street Naming: Steve Millikin received a letter from Lisa Johnson of McMillan, she stated that 6 names were approved and are awaiting final approval of additional 3. Capt. Dyke added that 3,000 permits for homes have been approved in Eastlake adding more streets to be named. d. Veteran's Park: Bob White met with Buck Martin regarding the Veterans Park, as well as the Parks and Rec Foundation. The groundbreaking ceremony should now be around early September. In addition, there is a "Bricks for Vets" fundraising program that will benefit the Chula Vista Veterans Home.Support Foundation as well as the Parks and Rec Foundation. Deadline for initial subscription will be May 2005. Preliminary applications/brochures to purchase a brick for the Veteran's Park was distributed. Widest•dissemination was requested. e. Veterans Bios. Matt Sayers has completed work on the initial work on the Memorial Park Veterans Bios. The website is www.chulavistaca.gov/vet. All Vietnam and Korean Vets now have some information, including unit assigned, when died, and most are known regarding their place of burial. In fact, of the 83 WWII veterans, only about16 now exist with no information. Photos have been taken of the 50 street signs. Photos of 12 Vietnam Vets from HS Yearbooks plus 1 from Korean War also taken. Bob White has searched the daily Star -News for the 1942, 1943 and 1944 time frames, and has also visited the San Diego library for their microfiche records. Bob White plans to continue this project (1945 and beyond) until all known resources are exhausted.'We have received kudos from Council member Rindone regarding this project. f. Broadway Fundraiser: Bill Poindexter requested this item to be removed. g. VFW Post 2111 "Walk for Vets": (Veterans Day, 2004) Veteran's Home Foundation Update: There are now 342 residents at the Veterans Home, including MOH recipient John Flynn, LT, USN, who was awarded the MOH as a result of his actions on Dec7, 1941. The state has agreed to assume responsibility for the pontoon boat. The boat will be launched in about a week and allow for @10 residents at a time. The Combined Federal Campaign has approved the listing of the CWHSF for the fall fundraiser. NOSC has donated $1000 to the CWHSF. 4 The CWHSF golf tourney made about $7500, and was considered a success. Chula Vista has agreed to CDBG request of $3500 and La Mesa has agreed to $1800. These requests are earmarked for a common router/Internet system. Potential Fundraising effort — local restaurants. Requires community participation, and a POC h. The Spotlight. a. Veteran of the Year applications. Watch the Web. Capt Dyke to submit a short paragraph to the spotlight regarding the website for Veterans at Memorial Park. j. United Veterans Council Report: Nothing to report. b. USS Reagan is coming. c. USS Midway is sending our applications to be a "plank owner" regarding membership. Unfinished Business 6.
