5. ACTION ITEMS
1 Motion to have the short street just west of Veterans Park renamed as Mendez-Aceves Court: This street will become the
East entrance/exit into the Ralphs shopping center and is presently named Davies. Davies name will remain on the South side
of Last Palomar. A letter will be sent to Sylvester Evetovich, City of Chula Vista Engineering Department if motion passes.
2. Status of Brick Sales to date: Bob White stated that 803 bricks and 320 miniature bricks have been sold to date
3. Volunteers to assist in sorting Veteran's Park bricks: Bob White also mentioned that volunteers will be needed by June
5 to sort and arrange the bricks. Most of those on the Commission are willing to assist if at all possible. AY and Leonard
dicated that some in their family are from multiple services. AY Casillas and Bob White will look into talking to Buck
Martin too see if the family can be displayed together, even though the Parks and Recreation department is trying to keep
the services independent from one another.
4. Veterans Home status – Bob White mentioned the Golf Tournament and the need to sell foursomes for the golf tourney
on 2 May. He also mentioned that there are currently 370 residents at the home.
5. Final push to sell Commemorative Bricks - Only 12 days to go when we have the meeting.
6 Bios essentially completed - 115 names completed and no news to report.
7. Veteran of the Year Project: Leonard Miranda will submit an announcement, inviting Veteran of the Year nominations in
the next issue of Spotlight. The nomination forms will be modified and updated by Mariluz Alvarez. It was decided that the
deadline to submit the nominations will be on September 18, 2005
8. Need a Vote to issue support letter for SB 1040 Sponsored by Sen. Dennis Hollingsworth: No action was taken due to
Bobby Price's absence.
9. Memorial Tree Planting Ceremoy Bob White stated that Lt Governor Cruz Bustamante will be present at a Memorial
Tree Planting Ceremony on May 11t honoring those who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

COMISSIONERS COMMENTS.
AY mentioned that he and Gene constituted the committee to work with Council member John McCann on the
veteran's memorial at the new civic center. AY indicated that McCann seemed excited about the project and
wanted to meet with the VAC. AY indicated that he'd invite McCann to appear at the 17 May meeting to exchange
ideas.
White and Leonard indicated that they'd not be available to attend the 17 May meeting, and wondered if we could
move the meeting.
Sherry Struthers has been selected as the Vice Chief of Naval Operations nominee for the Shore Sailor of the
Year competition. She'll complete against about four other candidates for the final selection
