4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
5. ACTION ITEMS
• Street Naming: Steve Millikin stated the plan to name the bridges by major operations might be rethought by Otay
Ranch Development. They will like to meet sometime in the future and come up with a more generic name. The
request to change the street Davies Drive to Mendez-Acevez has been denied due to several conflicts, one being
there is no funding to purchase a new replacement sign.
• Senator Hollingsworth AB1040: Bobby Price stated that undocumented aliens that are in California are allowed to
go to the University and pay in-state tuition. The military members, spouses and children are not, they have to pay
out of state tuition for at least a year then they can pay the in-state tuition. Bobby Price would like to have the '
commission send a letter to endorse a bill to change that. A motion was moved and approved for Bobby Price to
draft a letter and will be reviewed and approved by the commission.
• Civic Center Memorial Project: AY Casillas mentioned that John McCann was supposed to be in the meeting but
could not make it due to scheduling conflicts. AY Casillas and Gene Pellerin will meet with him on a separate date.
• Veterans Park: Over 1,300 bricks were sold and still counting. Bobby Price asked the commission to help sort the
bricks sometime in August.
• Veteran of the Year: No Update. Mariluz Alvarez is to check of the status of the article in Spotlight.
• Veteran's Home Update: Per Bobby Price, the computer lab is at a full stop due to security issues. Money from the
grant might be lost if it is not used within a certain amount of time. Per Stephen Millikin, the golf tournament was
very successful.
• Veteran Walk: 41h Annual is in the works for November 6m
