APPROVAL OF MINUTES 5. ACTION ITEMS • Veteran's Park Status: Bob White invited the Commission to the Dedication Committee meeting on July 26, 2005 at 5.30pm. There, they will discuss the progress report and discuss what is needed for the dedication of the park. 1,211 bricks and 489 miniature bricks have been sold. Applications are still being accepted. Bob White calculated an estimated $16,000 was raised for the Veteran's home. A "soft opening" is scheduled in August and the laying and arranging of the bricks is also scheduled some time in August. Bob White added that Bag Pipes are planned for the park's dedication. • CWHSF: Bob White reported that there are currently 369 residents at the Veteran's home. He added that the Combined Federal Campaign was approved and that the foundation made'$3,600 last year through the Combined 0 Federal Campaign. AY Casillas suggested that the Lions Club should be contacted regarding a possible grant for the CWHSF. AY will forward all the contact information to Bob White. • Meeting with Councilman McCann: Gene Pellerin stated that AY Casillas, Councilman McCann and Gene had a meeting and Councilman McCann seemed open and happy to receive suggestions and ideas regarding the memorial in City Hall. Councilman McCann mentioned that he would speak to people on the concept of the memorial. AY Casillas stated that the memorial was planned to be in the area of Guava and Davidson Street. AY mentioned that he would send e-mail to Councilman McCann for an update. • Street/Bridges: Stephen Millikin reported that Otay Ranch development is planning a park to honor Veterans. • Election of officers: The commission re-elected Bobby Price as the Chairman and Stephen Millikin was re-elected as the Vice -Chair. • Veteran of the Year: AY Casillas reported that applications for nominations have not been submitted yet. Gene Pellerin e-mailed the Star News and asked for an article to announce the acceptance of nominations. In addition, a letter will be sent to the Star News, requesting for the article to be displayed in the Star News newspaper 6. COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR'S COMMENTS COMISSIONERS COMMENTS. 7.
