MINUTES
June 20, 2006
TUESDAY, 6:00 P.M.

Loma Verde (Street signs, park): Robert White stated that Loma Verde, a McMillin development will have street
signs named after veterans up by mid-August. He added that he will take photographs of the street signs once
they're up and modify the City's Veteran's bio website.
Veteran's Park: Bobby Price stated that the Veteran's Park dedication went well and added that there was a large
turnout.
Veteran's Home Update: Robert White mentioned that there are currently 362 residents in the home. He also
mentioned that he received a check for $1,000 from General Atomics and $5,000 to go towards purchasing 8
laptops for the residents. He's also looking into possibly having volunteers from SBC to help set up the Internet.
He also mentioned that 8 residents went to the Golden Games in Virginia and several of them won medals,
including gold and silver.
Veteran of the year: AY Casillas mentioned that he had a meeting with Liz Pursell, Public Information Officer with
the City of Chula Vista, and they discussed ways to give more publicity for the Veteran of the Year so that the
Commission can receive more nominations for Veteran of the Year. Frank Prough with Chula Vista Star News will
be contacted so that he can possibly publish a blurb informing the community about the Veteran of the Year
nomination and where they can pick up an application.
Stephen Millikin update: Bobby Price stated that at this time no update is known on Steve. Mariluz will get in
contact with his wife, Maren Millikin to get an update.
