ACTION ITEMS
• Oversight Chula Vista Veteran's Park- Gene Pellerin discussed possibly visiting the park to make sure
the park is maintained properly, i.e., keep skaters away from bricks in the "Walk of honor." AY Casillas
mentioned he's in the process of arranging a meeting with Council member John McCann. John
Acosta suggested possibly adding metal "bumps" to keep skaters away. AY suggested meeting with
officers of the HOA.
• Veteran's Job Fair/Outreach- Terry Jensen checked for cost estimates for a mailer advertising
veteran's services. The price for a two-sided tri -fold is $6,000 for 75,000 and the price for postage is
$2,600. It was also estimated that a postcard would cost considerably less and the total to send out
the mailer is being estimated to be under $10,000. Terry also requested from the commission as to
what kind of wording to use on the mailer to catch the reader's attention.
• Update on California Veteran's Legislation -Bobby Price'mentioned Veteran's Affairs Chief Jim
Nicholson resigned from his position. He also mentioned 6.8 billion was added to the VA Bill.
• Veteran Home Support Foundation: Nothing to report this month.
• Veteran's Walk- Bobby Price mentioned Dick Rogers is helping with letters and will be mailing them
out within the week. This year's goal is to raise $15,000.
• Sgt Wyckoff Memorial- Bobby Price informed the memorial and reception will be held Saturday, July
28, 2007 at 10:00am at Post 2111.
• Veteran of the Year -Bobby Price was nominated for Veteran of the Year and unanimously elected as
Veteran of the year by members present with the exception of Bobby Price who left the meeting early.
AY Casillas will draft a letter and forward it to City Council.
• Sgt. Michael Martinez KIA Iraq- Gene Pellerin stated they have collected little information on his
biography but not enough to complete it. He added Sandra Acevez has contacted Martinez's family
and is currently working on obtaining more information.
• Recognition for Veteran's lost in combat -Gene Pellerin stated he would like a plaque to recognize
them but prefers them not to be placed on the floor. AY Casillas mentioned Shea Homes has another
development, possibly more street names may be available. Gene continued with possibly adding an
obelisk at the end of the bridge or add an obelisk in Veteran's Park. Terry Jensen suggested the
plaques, which are currently in the bridge either be removed and placed or replicated on an obelisk in
the Veteran's Park. AY Casillas added that Fidel Flores' name will not be placed on as a street name
but possibly qualify for a plaque.

Terry Jensen discussed San Diego Stand down which was held at San Diego High School July 13, 2007. San
Diego Stand down is aimed for homeless veterans and helps them with food, medical care, shelter etc.
