APPROVAL OF MINUTES ■ Elect Vice Chair: Bobby Price nominated Gene Pellerin as the Vice Chair and was unanimously elected by all commissioners present ■ Proposition 12• Bobby Price discussed proposition 12, which the San Diego Union Tribune is against. He encouraged all commissioners to get the word out, at least in the veteran community • Veteran's Walk: Bobby Price stated the Veteran's Walk will be held Saturday, November 8th at 9:00am starting at the Veteran's Home and ending at VFW Post 2111. All money to go to the Veteran's Home Support Foundation. • Veteran's Home Status: Gene Pellerin discussed the Annual Golf tournament, which will be held at the Eastlake Golf course. The exact date has not been set yet but it will be held sometime in May 2009. ■ Meeting with CDVA Secretary Johnson and State Representative Mary Salas: Gene Pellerin stated CDVA Secretary Tom Johnson and State Representative Mary Salas made a presentation at the Veteran's Home September 30th and spoke about bill AB2670 which is designed to help homeless Veterans. It would provide funding through the issue of bonds to pay for the veteran's living facilities. This would be condominiums for the veterans with payments appropriate for their level of income. AB2786, which allows the military deployed overseas to vote via fax or email passed and is a law now AB2828, an ongoing program that provides help for substance abuse as well as mental health This would make the Human Services of the State of California responsible to provide services. SB1572 Cal Vet Home Loans for new veterans was also discussed Project discussion for 2009: Bobby Price discussed projects completed by the VAC to include, naming streets after veterans that were killed in action in the Sunbow/Otay Ranch area. 119 streets are named after veterans. The Veteran's park and Walk of Honor projects were discussed. Bobby Price asked commissioners to think of new projects for the coming year. John Acosta mentioned the Chula Vista Library to possibly dedicate a wing to war veterans. Gene Pellerin added they are supporting the project and will be of any assistance if needed. John Acosta volunteered to head up the veteran's wing project at the Chula Vista Library. ■ Veteran of the Year Status: Gene Pellerin discussed Veteran of the Year for the City of Chula Vista and Veteran of the Year for the County of San Diego. The Veteran of the Year for the County of San Diego will be presented in Mission Valley, in the Scottish Rite Center, possibly November 7th Invitation should have been received. Keith Blum. Keith Blum discussed his background and interest in becoming more involved in the Veteran affairs.
