4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Keith Blum made a motion to approve February minutes as written and was seconded by Terry Jensen. The
minutes were approved unanimously.
ACTION ITEMS
• Veterans Activities Presentation: (see attached)
Veterans Home Update: The 12`x' Annual Walk will be in memory of Bobby Price. Different approach this year.
There will be team sponsorships where teams will do their own fund raising by
Chula Vista Veteran of the Year Program: The City's website has application for nominations available. The
deadline to receive the applications,is June 30`x'. After all applications are received, Mariluz Zepeda and Tony
Stewart will coordinate distributing copies of the applications electronically to all commissioners. Commissioners
to review all applications and rank them before July's VAC meeting. During July's meeting, commissioners will
present their rankings and Capt. Gary Ficacci and Mariluz Zepeda will combine all the data. Commissioners will
then discuss the top ranked nomiriations and select the Veteran of the Year for Chula Vista.
Tony Stewart suggested VAC submit the recommendation for the Veteran of the Year immediately to City Council
and aim to seek an August presentation. Commissioners agreed with the timeline.
Captain Gary Ficacci will follow-up with Star News regarding advertising the outreach program`for the Veteran of
the Year and will look into the Eastlake Publication.
Tony Stewart suggested a dinner should be held for the Veteran of the Year.
City of Chula Vista's Veterans Advisory Commission website: Website page is in the works. Tony Stewart is
working with a city intern and Webmaster Norma Frank. Tony submitted photos of Marine Corp League, VFW
and other photos to try to capture veterans. Tony Stewart will not turn in a Veterans Resource page at this time
because of possible restrictions with web linking policies in regards,to ".gov" websites. Tony to review the policy
and present to VAC to discuss proposed agencies to be added to page. Webpage should be up in running in
approximately two weeks.
Tony Stewart stated the Commemorative Brick application link has been removed from the VAC's page.
