4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Keith Blum made a motion to approve April minutes as written and was seconded by Stephen Sprenkle. The
minutes were approved unanimously.
ACTION ITEMS
• Veterans Activities Presentation: (see attached)
Virgil Whitehead made a motion to recommend to the'Mayor and City Council for the City of Chula Vista
sponsor a tent at the 25th Annual Veterans Stand Down Event in the amount of $500. The motion was
seconded by John Acosta. The motion to recommend was approved unanimously.
Veterans Home Update: Residents Joan Demumbrun and Frank Hall will soon reach 100 years old and the
t Home will provide a small birthday celebration.

• Veteran of the year program: Several publications continue to run advertisements and several organizations
have been sent the nomination package for review. The deadline is June 30, 2013. One submission thus far with
several organizations committing to submit by the deadline.
• DVBE Policy Update: Per the Chair, David Miller has forwarded the policy draft to the appropriate Departments
for review. Upon review, estimated at two to three weeks per department, the final draft will be ready for next
course of action. It is anticipated that the final draft will be available by next meeting. '
• Commission Highlights for PowerPoint slide (for Boards & Commission event): All commissioners were
solicited for input for power point slide to represent the year in review.
CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Chair Galicia regrettably reported that he will depart the Commission at the end of his term on June 301h. Galicia
thanked all commissioners for their support during his term. He shared his reluctance to depart before the DVBE
policy has been completed, but asked for the commission to continue to see it through to completion in his stead.
After discussion regarding nominations for Chair, a motion was made by Tony Stewart to table nominations until
next meeting and was seconded by Virgil Whitehead. The commission so moved the motion.

Court Chula Vista at 6:00 pm.
