CALL MEETING TO ORDER 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 3. ROLL CALL Alex Galicia P Stephen Sprenkle P, John Acosta At Virgil Whitehead P, Keith Blum P, Terry Jensen P_ Tony Stewart E 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Virgil Whitehead made a motion to approve May minutes as written and was seconded by Terry Jensen. The minutes were approved unanimously. ACTION ITEMS • Veteran of the Year: 1 application for Veteran of the Year has been submitted and there are 3 verbal commitments from additional organizations. The deadline to receive applications is set for June 30, 2013. • DVBE Policy Update: The policy has been approved by legal and is currently being reviewed by various departments. The review process should take several weeks. Once the review process is complete, City Attorney Glen Googins will meet with the VAC to present the final draft and discuss any possible amendments. • Veterans Activities: Virgil Whitehead presented the Veterans Activities Report (see attached) 1) Coronado 4th of July Parade: Virgil asked to contact him if anyone is interested in walking in the parade. The parade will be held on J Street between 2nd and 3`d Avenue at 8:OOam. { 6) Veterans Stand down Event: Mayor's office agreed to donate $500 for the Veterans Stand Down Event. • Veterans Walk Fundraiser Kick -Off Events: The Kick-off "Info & Fun" event will be held on July 6th from 9:00am- 1:00pm at Rhor Park, Gazebos R-4 & R5, Lot B Parking. Music, Activities and food will be provided and it is free to the public. The Kick -Off "Cool Down" Social will also be held on July 6th from 2:OOpm-6:OOpm at the American Legion Post 434, 47 51h Avenue, Chula Vista CA. The cost for this event is $20 per person, ($15 advanced tickets t' available at www.cvveteranscare.org) Music, activities, food and drinks will be provided. Memorial Park,& Third Avenue Renovation Project: This item is being tabled for the time being. • VAC Chair election: Terry Jensen made a motion to nominate Keith Blum as the Chair for the upcoming year, seconded by Stephen Sprenkle. Terry Jensen made a motion for Stephen Sprenkle to remain Vice -Chair, seconded by Alex Galicia. Both motions were approved unanimously. Commissioners thanked Alex Galicia for serving on the commission. CHAIR'S COMMENTS t t ADJOURNMENT: Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Chula Vista Veterans Home, 700 E.
