4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Tony Stewart moved to approve minutes of August 21, 2013 as written. Commissioner Acosta seconded the
motion, and it carried by the following vote:
Yes: 5 —Blum, Sprenkle, Acosta, Jensen, Stewart
ACTION ITEMS
Veterans Activities: (see attached)
DVBE Policy Update: Keith Blum received the working draft for the DVBE policy from David Miller. Keith will
forward draft to all commissioners for review.
Veterans "Walk of Honor" Brick program: Applications will be available the month of November.
Memorial Park & Third Avenue Renovation Project: No update. Tony Stewart and Virgil Whitehead Will
approach the local VSO's in attempts to establish a committee to discuss the renovation.
Third Avenue Flag Brackets: VFW purchased flag brackets which were placed on light poles on 3`d Avenue.
Poles and brackets were removed during the 3`d Avenue renovation and can not be located. Tony Stewart moved
to formally request the funded replacement of the 8`d Avenue flag brackets that were recently removed during the
is 3`d Avenue renovation. Commissioner Jensen seconded the motion, and it carried by the following vote:
Yes: 5 -Blum, Sprenkle, Acosta, Jensen, Stewart

SEPTEMBER 2013
1. NEW VA DIRECTOR, MS. SHANA SANTOYO, HAS ASSUMED DUTIES AS ACTING
DIRECTOR OF SAN DIEGO REGIONAL OFFICE IN MISSION VALLEY.
2. NEW VA DIRECTOR OF ROSECRANS AND MIRAMAR CEMETERIES IS MR. DOUG
LEDBETTER. FORT ROSECRANS HAS 110,034 INTERMENTS AND MIRAMAR HAS
2,747 -
3. THE VA ASPRE CENTER IN OLD TOWN THAT WILL TREAT VETS WITH PTSD AND
TBI IS SCHEDULED TO OPEN FEB 2014.
4. THE VA IS ATTEMPING TO FIND SPACE FOR A NEW CLINIC IN SORRENTO
VALLEY.
5. VETERANS VILLAGE STANDOWN HAD 1,000 HOMELESS VETERANS. THERE WERE
3,000 VOLUNTEERS.
6. THE USS MIDWAY WILL ASSUME SPONSORSHIP FOR THE ANNUAL VETERANS PARADE
FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS.
7. VA HEALTHCARE PATIENTS CAN NOW USE OUTSIDE CLINICS (URGENT CARE) WITH
CO -PAY.
8. HOMELESS VET SURVEY IS VERY QUESTIONABLE. COUNTY HAS 9,000-10,000
WHILE HOMELESS VETS ARE ONE IN FOUR SO THAT IS AROUND 2,500 HOMELESS
VETS. YOUNGER VETS AND FEMALES ARE COMING IN MORE OFTEN IN THE
COUNT.
9. NAVY/MARINES ARE BEING MOVED FROM MORON, SPAIN TO SIGNOLI, ITALY THAT
WILL ENABLE THEM TO BE IN SYRA IN THREE HOURS.
10. MARINES ARE BEING MOVED FROM OKINAWA TO PHILIPINES, GUAM, AND
AUSTRALIA.
11. VETERAN HOME CENSUS IS°295 AND 88 ON WAIT LIST.
12. VETERAN WALK 2 NOVEMBER. (OPEN DISCUSSION)
13. VETERAN OF YEAR WAS BOB BAILEY AND SPONSORED BY FLEET RESERVE
ASSOCIATION.
14, SOUTH BAY PURPLE HEART CHAPTER GAVE $700 IN $100 GIFT CARDS TO THE
WOUNDED WARRIOR THURSDAY NIGHT DINNER.
15. VETERAN HOME CHAPLAIN SATTERFIELD RETIRED ---
16. VETERAN HOME DEMENTIA AND ALZHIMERS WALL IS NOW BEING CONSIDERED TO
BE PROCURED BY CAL VET.
17. VETERAN HOME LOOKING FOR TAX SPECIALIST.
