RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING $38,617 FROM THE U.S.
DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, AUTHORIZING
THE POLICE DEPARMENT TO PURCHASE RADIO
DISPATCH CONSOLE EQUIPMENT FROM MOTOROLA
SOLUTIONS, INC. BASED ON THE COUNTY OF SAN
DIEGO'S CONTRACT NUMBER 553982 PRICING AND
TERMS, AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS TO THE
FEDERAL GRANTS FUND FOR THE URBAN AREA
SECURITY INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the San Diego Office of Homeland Security, which administers the Urban
Area Security Initiative (UASI), has notified the City of Chula Vista of Fiscal Year 2016 UASI
funding; and
WHEREAS, the Urban Area Security Initiative addresses the unique planning,
organization, equipment, training, and exercise needs of high -threat, high-density urban areas;
and
WHEREAS, grant funds from the Urban Area Security Initiative are restricted as to how
the funding can be spent and cannot supplant normal budgetary items for the City; and
WHEREAS, the equipment funding includes P25 compatible radio dispatch consoles to
upgrade the current dispatch consoles; and
WHEREAS, City Council had originally accepted $480,000 awarded by the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security; and
WHEREAS, with this action, City Council accepts $38,617 in additional funds for a
grand total award of $518,617; and
WHEREAS, the County of San Diego conducted a competitive procurement for a new
regional communications system and established contract number 553982 with Motorola
Solutions, Inc. as a result of the competitive procurement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista, that it accepts $38,617 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, authorizes the
Police Department to purchase radio dispatch console equipment from Motorola Solutions, Inc.
based on the County of San Diego's contract number 553982 pricing and terms, and appropriates
said funds to the capital category of the federal grants fund for the Urban Area Security
Initiative.
