HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2017-198RESOLUTION NO. 2017-198 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AUTHORIZING STAFF TO SUBMIT REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION TO THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO TO INITIATE THE ADOPTION PROCESS OF AN URBAN AGRICULTURE INCENTIVE ZONE WHEREAS, jurisdictions are becoming increasingly aware that cities play a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of their communities; and WHEREAS, the Healthy Chula Vista Action Plan adopted January 5, 2016 included strategies to increase local food production and encourage urban agriculture within the City of Chula Vista; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 551 passed in 2013 and recently amended in September 2017, allows jurisdictions to adopt an Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone ("UAIZ") for eligible landowners to enter into contract to use their otherwise "unused" property for agricultural use for a minimum of five years in exchange for a reduction in property tax; and WHEREAS, the first step in the adoption of an UAIZ is approval by the County of San Diego, in its role as the tax assessor and collector. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that it authorizes staff to submit required documentation to the County of San Diego to initiate the adoption process of an Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone in Chula Vista.
