RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY
- CALIFORNIA LIBRARY SERVICES ACT ENGLISH
LANGUAGE AND LITERACY INTENSIVE (ELLI) GRANT
FUNDS OF $97,200 AWARDED TO THE CHULA VISTA
LITERACY TEAM AND AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR
2003 BUDGET FOR THE CALIFORNIA LIBRARY SERVICES
ACT FUND BY APPROPRIATING UNANTICIPATED
REVENUE OF $76,300
WHEREAS, the Chula Vista Literacy Team has been awarded a California Library
Services Act (CLSA) English Language and Literacy Intensive (ELLI) grant of $97,200 fi.om the
California State Library to develop and offer children's literacy services to children who are
English Language Learners; and
WHEREAS, the ELLI Grant Program was created in response to Govenor Gray Davis'
focus on education and his desire to improve the literacy skills of Califomia's school-age
children, especially those who come fi.om homes where English is not the first language; and
WHEREAS, this is the second year that the Literacy Team has been awarded this grant;
however, these funds cannot be used to supplant the current tutor reading program; and
WHEREAS, at its June 19, 2002 meeting, the Library Board of Trustees voted to support
the Library's application for CLSA English Language and Literacy Intensive grant funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Chula Vista
does hereby accept California State Library California Library Services Act English Language
and Literacy Intensive grant funds of $97,200 awarded to the Chula Vista Literacy Team.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby amend the Fiscal Year
2003 budget for the California Library Services Act Fund by appropriating unanticipated revenue
of $76,300.
