HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-06-13 CAC MinutesCI1Y OF CHOLA VISTA Cultural Arts Commission MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA June 13, 2016 5:15 p.m. CALL TO ORDER - 5:19p.m Civic Center Branch Library Conference Room 365 F Street, Chula Vista 91910 ROLL CALL: Absent: Chair Macapugay and Commissioner Gore Present: Vice Chair Zhivago, Commissioners Cazares, Daniels, Delgado (Arrived 5:24pm), Reinhart, Sywyj CONSENT CALENDAR The Board/Commission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one motion, without discussion, unless a Board/Commission Member, a member of the public, or staff requests that an item be removed for discussion. If you wish to speak on one of these items, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior to the meeting. Items pulled from the Consent Calendar will be discussed immediately following the Consent Calendar. 1. Declaration of excused/unexcused absenteeism May 9th, 2016 Vice Chair Zhivago Commissioner Cazares Commissioner Daniels Staff recommendation: Excuse the absences Action: Motion was made by Commissioner Rodriguez to excuse the absences of May 9t" as presented. Commissioner Sywyj seconded the motion. The motion carried with Commissioner Reinhart abstaining from the vote as he was not on the Commission on May 9th. 2. Approval of minutes May 9th, 2016 Staff recommendation: Approve the meeting minutes Action: Motion was made by Commissioner Cazares to approve the minutes of May 9t" as presented. Commissioner Rodriguez seconded the motion. The motion carried with Commissioner Reinhart abstaining from the vote as he was not on the Commission on May 9tl' PUBLIC COMMENTS Pamela Maxwell, a local author introduced herself and provided a short synopsis of her recent self published book "When Rain Comes". Ms. Maxwell thanked the Commission for awarding her with a Gayle McCandliss Award. ACTION ITEMS) 3. Presentation of the City's Cultural Arts Master Plan — Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez; Cultural Arts Manager Staff recommendation: That the Cultural Arts Commission recommend that the City Council adopt the Cultural Arts Master Plan. Ms. Tessitore gave a presentation on the Cultural Arts Master Plan. The Cultural Arts Commission provided the following comments: include school logos in the plan, consider partnerships with other school districts other than CVESD and SUHSD. The Commission also discussed the importance of prioritizing strategies and initiatives. Ms. Tessitore stated that a work plan with short, mid and long term priorities, will be presented to Council with the Cultural Arts Master Plan. The Commission expressed its pleasure with the document and its excitement for Council adoption. Action: Motion was made by Commissioner Cazares recommend that the City Council approve the Cultural Arts Master Plan. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Reinhart. The motion unanimously carried. OTHER BUSINESS 4. STAFF COMMENTS Ms. Tessitore reminded the Commission that HarborFest would be held on Saturday August 20t". She and the HarborFest (HF) Subcommittee will meet within the next week or so with those Commissioners appointed to represent the Cultural Arts Commission (Commissioners Daniels, Rodriguez, with Cazares as the alternate) on the HF Subcommittee to discuss the community stage and opportunities for Cultural Arts Commissioners to volunteer at HarborFest. 5.
