McCandliss Arts Awards ; Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez, Cultural Arts Manager Recommendation: Accept the Subcommittee Recommendation Ms. Tessitore-Lopez provided an overview of the nominees and the subcommittee recommendation. The subcommittee was comprised of Commissioner Rodriguez, Commission Gore, and Cultural Arts Manager Tessitore-Lopez. Commissioner Rodriguez provided a summary of the review process and considerations when reviewing the nominations. Coimnissioner Rodriguez recused herself from both the subcommittee consideration and Commission consideration of the nominations of her daughter Isabel Rodriguez, Dayna Hill, and Madelin Chavez and recused herself from the Cultural Arts Commission consideration and vote. Motion was made by Commissioner Sywyj and seconded by Commissioner Zhivago Motion Carried to award the McCadliss Arts Awards as follows: The Cultural Arts Commission awarded the McCandliss Arts Awards as follows: Rising Star Scholarship Winners: $200.00 Brianna Quirino; Palomar High School — Visual Arts Benjamin Salvaci6n; High Tech High School — Music Joshua Lee ; Eastlake High School — Dance Jared Gorospe — Hilltop High School — Photography Isabel Rodriguez — Bonita Vista High School — Performing Arts Rising Star Honorable Mention Award Winners: Dayna Hill; Bonita Vista High School — Performing Arts Madelin Eli Chavez — Otay Ranch High School — Performing Arts Ramona Demotto- SCPA Chula Vista High School — Visual Arts Oscar Chavez — Castle Park High School- Visual Arts Jonathan Mena- Castle Park High School — Visual Arts Valentina Alonzo — Hilltop High School — Media Mathias Cien- Mayer — Hilltop High School — Photography Lori Lopez — Hilltop High School — Photography Alisa Venegas — Hilltop High School - Mixed Media Leticia Roybal — Hilltop High School — Photography 2. Performing and Visual Arts Grant (PVAG); Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez, Cultural Arts Manager Ms. Tessitore-Lopez presented the PVAG Task Force grant recipient recommendations. Commissioner Sywyj provided an overview of the Task Force methodology of recommendations. Commissioner Sywyj stated that unfortunately there were more grant requests than funds available and the Task Force did their best to meet the selection criteria and grant as many requests as possible but very few if any received the full amount requested. Recommendation: Accept the Task Force Recommendations and Recommend Approval to the City Council Motion made by Commissioner Zhivago and seconded by Commissioner Delgado to accept the Task Force recommendations and recommend that City Council approve said recommendations.
