Declaration of excused/unexcused absenteeism April 11, 2016 Chair Macapugay Staff recommendation: Excuse the absence 2. Approval of minutes April 11, 2016 Staff recommendation: Approve the meeting minutes Civic Center Branch Library Conference Room 365 F Street, Chula Vista 91910 Motion was made by Commissioner Sywyj and seconded by Delgado The motion unanimously carried. PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments INFORMATIONAL ITEMS) 3. McCandliss Arts Awards Update; Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez, Cultural Arts Manager Ms. Tessitore Lopez provided a summary of the applications received. 29 applications were received, 3 of which were not Chula Vista residents and therefore do not qualify as nominees. Ms. Tessitore-Lopez will make sure that the non -qualifying applicants are advised accordingly and thanked for their interest. The awards subcommittee (Gore and Rodriquez) will meet with Ms. Tessitore-Lopez to go through the applications and will make recommendations to the full Cultural Arts Commission (CAC). There are applicants in all categories and of all mediums of art. The subcommittee agreed to meet on Tuesday May 10t" at 9:30am. Ms. Tessitore-Lopez will also send thank you notes to the nominators as it is appreciated that they took the time to complete the application. In several instances, the applicants nominated more than 1 person. The CAC agreed to hold a special meeting on Monday May 16"', 5pm-6pm to finalize the McCandliss Arts Awards. 4. DRAFT Cultural Arts Master Plan Update Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez, Cultural Arts Manager Ms. Tessitore-Lopez introduced her student intern from High Tech High. Julia Rodriquez will be working with Ms. Tessitore-Lopez for the next 4 weeks. She will assist with formatting the Cultural Arts Master Plan, the webpage and other miscellaneous projects. Now that comments have been received from the CAC and internal review complete, the document will be formatted (including pictures, graphics, and appendices etc..). Ms. Tessitore-Lopez hopes to have it finalized and ready for public review in the next couple of weeks and to City Council in July. ACTION ITEM(S) 5. Cultural Arts Logo - Lynette Tessitore-Lopez, Cultural Arts Manager Recommendation: To finalize selection of a Cultural Arts Logo. Ms. Tessitore-Lopez presented 8 logos that the City's graphic designer designed based upon the feedback provided by the Cultural Arts Commission at the April CAC meeting. The Commission went through the designs and agreed they wanted a logo that sent a clear message and that cultural arts or arts was the primary focus. After a lengthy discussion the Commission selected option #6 with the following revisions: • Mute the orchard background and make the A a bolder color, possibly black • Add the paint splatter that is proposed in Options #7 and 48. Motion made by Commissioner Sywyj and was seconded by Commissioner Rodriquez. The motion carried unanimously. Page 2 1 Cultural Arts Commission May 9, 2016 OTHER BUSINESS 6. STAFF COMMENTS Ms. Tessitore-Lopez reported out on the Viva Musica event that was held on May 7t" in Memorial Bowl. This year's event was the first time this event was held in a public forum. Previously this event was held in someone's backyard. Ms. Tessitore-Lopez reported that the event was a great success. The Mayor and Councilwoman Bensoussan attended, as well as Commissioner Cazares and Commissioner Delgado. There were several community partners that had booths at the event, including the Animal Facility, Living Coast Discovery Center, as well as CVPD and CVFD attended the event. A date for 2017 has already been set and Memorial Bowl has been reserved. Ms. Tessitore-Lopez also reminded the Commission of the Historic Home Tour and Amps and Ales both of which would be held on May 14"', 2016. She stated that volunteers were needed to sell tickets for the historic home tour, if anyone was interested to let her know asap. 7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS - Chair Macapugay advised that due to scheduling conflicts she would be unable to accept another term. She stated that this would be her last meeting. 8. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS - Commissioner Delgado asked that international art opportunities be considered in the future. Ms. Tessitore-Lopez stated that collaboration with the International Friendship Committee was a strategy of the proposed Cultural Arts Master Plan.
