Motion made by Commissioner Sywyj and seconded by Commissioner Gore. The
motion unanimously carried.
2. Approval of minutes

Staff recommendation: Approve the meeting minutes
Motion made by Commissioner Sywyj and seconded by Commissioner Gore. The
motion unanimously carried.

INFORMATIONAL ITEM(S)
3. Revision Project Presentation; High Tech High Chula Vista
Presenters: John Bosselman, Teacher High Tech High Chula Vista,
Rafael Rosas , Student High Tech High Chula Vista
Kirsten Dael, Student High Tech High Chula Vista
Mr. Bosselman gave an overview of HTH's project based learning method and
introduced two students that are working on the Revision Lab Project. Rafael and Kirsten
gave a power point presentation on the Revision Lab Project. They stated that the goal of
the project is to recreate locations, products, and experiences as a means of expanding
access to innovation and creativity. They have applied for a $350K place -making grant
that identified three threads of activities, which includes arts programming, community
collaboration, and satellite exhibitions. They are proposing to set up a multi -functional
space on Third Avenue that would be co -programmed with organizations such as Outside
the Lens and the Museum of Photographic Art. The Commission provided input and
suggestions on potential collaborations, including the Commission. They will continue to
work with Ms. Tessitore-Lopez on potential space and project opportunities as ways to
ensure the Revision Lab Project's success. They agreed to return to the Commission with
project updates.
4. McCandliss Arts Awards Update; Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez, Interim Cultural Arts
Manager
Ms. Tessitore-Lopez provided an update on the status of awards applications. She stated
that to date, 17 Rising Star awards and 3 Bravo awards were received. The Commission
discussed the review process. They agreed that Ms. Tessitore-Lopez would do the initial
quality check (i.e. meet criteria, evidence of enrollment etc...) and will request samples
of work. The Commission agreed that since there were so many applications this year,
that all applicants should be acknowledged in some way. It was decided that the
winners would be acknowledge at Council and the other nominees would be
acknowledge either through an exhibition of their work and/or a certificate of
appreciation. A sub -committee ( Gore, Rodriguez, with Zhivago as an alternate) was
formed to review sample works of art, potential interviews with nominees and to make a
recommendation to the Commission on the final awardees.
5. DRAFT Cultural Arts Master Plan Update Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez, Interim Cultural
Arts Manager
Ms.Tessitore-Lopez stated that she is working on some final edits and anticipates having
the draft document out for public review by the end of April/early May and to City
Council in early to mid-June.

6. Cultural Arts Logo Selection; Lynnette Tessitore-Lopez
Staff Recommendation: Select one of the proposed City of Chula Vista Cultural Arts
logos.
Ms. Tessitore-Lopez provided five (5) logo options. The Commission discussed the
options provided and decided that they would like a combination of two of the logos
presented ( C and E) and would like the Urban Orchard color palette with the specific
design of a treble clef off of the T in Arts.
Motion was made by Commissioner Gore and seconded by Commissioner Delgado. The
motion unanimously carried.

Ms. Tessitore-Lopez provided the Commission an update on several community events.
She stated that April in Paris was a great success. The event included artists booths and a
juried art exhibit. There were over 40 entrys in all mediums of art. She also reminded
the Commission that May 7th was the Viva Musica event, to be held in Memorial Bowl.
The event will include the orchestra music as well as several community booths, child
friendly activities and food. She also reminded the Commission that the Historic Home
Tour and Amps and Ales will be held on May 141h and HarborFest will be on August 201h
8. CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Vice -chair Zhivago informed the Commission of Toon-Con that would be held at
Heddencamp Elementary School April 22"d, 4-8pm. She also invited the Commission to
attend the Sakura Theater performance that will be held on May 5, 6, and 7th at
Montgomery High School.
9. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner Sywyj and Commissioner Daniels reported out on the outcome of the
Performing and Visual Arts Grant subcommittee that they sat on. There were
approximately 51 applications and $76k available to grant. They stated that they were
able to fund most applications in smaller amounts than requested (on average $2500).
They stated that approximately five (5) applications did not receive any funding.
Commissioner Daniels provided information on the Old Globe free summer camp that is
available to students in grades 6 - 12. Information was emailed to Commission, as well.
