HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-07-10 CAC MinutesCH6 TSTA Cultural Arts Commission MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA July 10, 2017 CALL TO ORDER: 6:02pm Civic Center Building A Conference Room CIO 1 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista 91910 ROLL CALL: Chair Cazares; Vice Chair Rodriguez (6:04pm); Commissioners; Daniels (6:11 pm) , Delgado, Gray, Gore, and Sywyj. CONSENT CALENDAR The Board/Commission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one motion, without discussion, unless a Board/Commission Member, a member of the public, or staff requests that an item be .removed for discussion. If you wish to speak on one of these items, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior to the meeting. Items pulled from the Consent Calendar will be discussed immediately following the Consent Calendar. 1. Declaration of excused/unexcused absenteeism March 13, 2017 Commissioner Delgado April 10, 2017 Commissioner Delgado Motion to approve made by Commissioner Gore and Seconded by Commissioner Sywyj. Motion passed unanimously. 2. Approval of minutes April 10, 2017 Motion to approve made by Commissioner Sywyj and Seconded by Commissioner Gray. Motion passed unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENTS NONE INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 3. Performing and Visual Arts Grant (PVAG): Lynnette Tessitore; Cultural Arts Manager Presentation of the PVAG Grant Committee Recommendations. Ms. Tessitore, with assistance of PVAG panel members Chair Cazares and Commissioner Gray, provided an overview of the grant panel review process and presented panel's 2017 PVAG Award recommendations. For 2017 there was approximately $87,000 to award, and 32 applications were received for upwards of $195,000 dollars in grant asks. 4. Harborfest 2017 Update; Lynnette Tessitore; Cultural Arts Manager Ms.Tessitore provided an overview of the stage line-up and Art in the Park/Maker Faire area. The event will be held 10am-6pm. A volunteer sheet will be provided at the next meeting for Commissioners to sign up. The intention is that no one person will have to work the entire event. The emcee's will be Commission Daniels and Jerret Caseltine (JC) of Hilltop High School. ACTION ITEMS 5. Appointments of FY 18 Chair and Vice Chair Staff Recommendation: That the Cultural Arts Commission appoint a Chair and Vice Chair for FY 18. The Commission discussed some options for rotation of Chair and Vice Chair. It was decided that the Chair will work with staff on ways (mentorship etc..) that all Commissioners may gain insight and knowledge necessary for the role as chair and vice chair. A motion was made by Commissioner Sywyj that Chair Cazares and Vice Chair Rodriguez continue on as Chair and Vice Chair. The motion was Seconded by Commissioner Gore and passed unanimously. OTHER BUSINESS 6. STAFF COMMENTS Ms. Tessitore gave an overview of upcoming events and work program tasks. She anticipates reconvening the subcommittees after Harborfest. 7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS 0160W 8. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS The Commission asked that they continue to be informe on the City's budget ituation.
