Comments/Recommendations
Overall Police and Fire do a great job with the
staff they have.
Concern that the Fire Department is too
focused on 4/0 staffing which does not
address the failure to meet medical response
times which accounts for majority of calls.
Concerns regarding low police patrolling in
the eastern sections of the City.
Concerns about reduced staffing levels for
School Resource Officers (SROs) at schools
to address problems at an early stage.
Comments/Recommendations
Concerns about too much police presence
at the schools. Focus should not be on using
police force at our schools but provide social
service programs to get to the root of the
issues.
How does 4/0 staffing help with emergency
medical response.
Concerns about medical response times in
the eastern sections of the City.
The recommendation cannot be just add
more officers. We need to address the
issues creating the problem.
Comments/Recommendations
Concerns regarding police response times
overall (all priority calls)
Request to expand neighborhood watch
Not enough officers east of the SR-125.
Concern that old staffing models are being
used when types of calls have shifted over to
higher number of medical calls.
Police not as responsive with certain
incidents: traffic, loitering, break-ins, racing
Major incidents do see police response
Comments/Recommendations
Significant concerns regarding homeless
population. Police response is good but the
problem is not being solved.
Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) is doing an
excellent job but there is too much work being
pushed onto officers. They can’t do it all,
citizens need to be part of the solution.
Police Department does a great job in working
with homeless on Third Avenue but they need
more resources.
Comments/Recommendations
Clearly not enough police officers citywide.
The City should consider a sales tax measure.
Need to increase focus on community
relations.
City should consider a police substation to
serve the eastern section of the City.
The City needs a greater focus on Economic
Development. Concerns were voiced regarding
shifting industrial/commercial lands to
residential.
Comments/Recommendations
Need proactive fire inspections and plan
reviews. Charge fees for fire inspection
services
Education is the key. The public can help if
they are trained. (i.e., CPR courses)
Need strategy to get funding to meet (public
safety) priorities
Increase fire prevention training for community.
Fire 101 should be available to the public.
Comments/Recommendations
Sending Fire Engines out to medical calls is
very expensive due to wear and tear.
Alternative models such as squads should be
considered.
Increase AMR ambulance services since they
are funded by fees.
Following fire disasters of 2003 and 2007 –
need community meeting regarding vegetation
management
Ride Along and Tours
