Padilla; CityClerk Cc: Nancy Cornell; Mary Johnson _ ; Tom Money; Subject: Tuesday Council Meeting 9/12 7 Eleven Honorable Mayor & Council, We would like to thank you for the opportunity to share our input and concerns over the appeal by 7 Eleven to obtain an alcohol permit for Bonita Road. As you know our neighborhood is connected through our active neighborhood watch group, and we want to stay engaged in items that pertain to the quality and safety of our community. As a 40 year resident of Chula Vista and a Hilltop High Alum, this is our permanent home, and we desire to maintain and enhance the quality of our community through thoughtful, well planned growth as we have seen on other areas of Chula Vista. We would also like to thank the Mayor and Council for upholding the recommendations of the ABC and Police Department to deny this application. The facts were clear, there is an abundance of supply of alcohol sources in the area, and there is no public need or convenience to be met. With multiple locations in the valley already supplying these needs, an additional supply would only add to the degradation of the area. We are very hopeful for, and would be supportive of, additional businesses that can add quality, value and diversity to this commercial area. Finally, while the application in question related to additional alcohol supply, we are still very concerned that this project was approved for such a retail use without consideration of the other serious concerns over this site. The ingress/egress is extremely limited and dangerous, and the complete lack of pedestrian access on Allen School Road must be addressed before we experience a serious or fatal incident. Please note there are no sidewalks on either side of Allen School Road from Bonita Road to Allen Elementary School, and pedestrians including children, must walk in the street to access the subject site. With traffic turning on Allen School from Bonita Road at a high rate of speed, it is a matter of time before a serious accident will occur. We hope our concerns will be considered and remedies be offered. Our community is eager to see improvements to this area, and look forward to achieving results with the help of our elected officials. Respectfully, Robert & Mary Johnson
