HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1987-12996 Revised 4/15/87 RESOLUTION NO. 12996 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ENCOURAGING THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL COMMISSION TO RECONSIDER ITS DENIAL OF FEDERAL MATCHING FUNDS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AN ESTUARY VISITORS CENTER IN THE CITY OF IMPERIAL BEACH The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Sanctuary Management Authority have been working on the development and operation of an estuary interpretive and visitors center which would be located within the estuary area in the City of Imperial Beach, and WHEREAS, there has been a consistent base of local citizen support for this center with citizens working for five years toward the center's development, and WHEREAS, the center would serve local and regional public interests by providing a valuable educational resource and facilities useful both to local citizens and to visitors to this region, and WHEREAS, the development of a center would be consistent with the City of Imperial Beach's General Plan, and with the approved Local Coastal Program and the Coastal Commission for the use and development of this area, and WHEREAS, this center would not act to compete with the existing, similar center in the City of Chula Vista; rather, the two facilities will complement each other as visitor and educational facilities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby request and encourage the Coastal Commission to rescind its earlier action denying funding for the Imperial Beach Center and to approve such funding at the earliest opportunity. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit this resolution with appropriate correspondence to the California Coastal Commission.
