A Regular Meeting of the Sustainability Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at
5:00 pm in the Executive Conference Room 103, Building A, located at 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula
Vista, California..
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Commissioners Coleman, Jaime (arrived at 5:09 pm), Kappes, Mora, Rahimzadeh
(arrived at 5:08 pm) and Chair Valen
ABSENT: Commissioner Roma
MOTION TO EXCUSE: Chair Valen moved to excuse Commissioners Jaime and Mora from
the meeting held on May 8, 2017. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Coleman and
carried with the following vote:
Yes — 4 Coleman, Kappes, Mora and Valen
No -0
Abstain — 0
STAFF PRESENT: Environmental Services Manager France, Senior Recycling Specialist
Medrano, Conservation Specialist Locci, Recycling Specialist Hice and Senior Secretary
Lindsey
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Kappes moved to approve the minutes of the regular
meeting on May 8, 2017. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Coleman and carried with the
following vote:
Yes — 4 Coleman, Kappes, Mora and Valen
No --O
Abstain — 0
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
none
Commissioner Rahimzadeh arrived
INFORMATION ITEMS
1. Barbara Locci, Conservation Specialist, gave a presentation about the process to obtain LEED
Certification of Building A at the Civic Center.

STAFF COMMENTS
Environmental Services Manager France informed the commissioners that she is training Senior
Conservation Specialist Wisniewski and Senior Recycling Specialist Medrano to staff the commission
after she retires in December.
Senior Recycling Specialist Medrano talked about the CALRecycle meeting he attended last month
concerning the new law (SB 183) to keep organics out of landfills.
COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner Jaime informed the commission that he will not request an extension of his term as a
commissioner. He thanked the commissioners for all he has learned during his time on the commission
Commissioner Rahimzadeh reflected on his time serving on the commission. He was proud to be a part
of what the commission has accomplished and appreciates all he has learned. His term is now complete
CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Chair Valen inquired as to when the Fix it Clinic has been rescheduled. Senior Recycling Specialist
Medrano answered that it has been rescheduled to the third Saturday in July.
Chair Valen reviewed the letter the commission received from the Climate Action Campaign and
stated that he will not be drafting a response,
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Valen adjourned the meeting at 6:22 pm.
