OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA
Held Monday June 8, 1970
An adjoined regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista was held in the Council Chamber on the above date at 4:00 P.M., with the
following Councilmen present:
Councilmen Scott, Hobel, Hamilton, Hyde, Egdahl
Absent: None
Also present: Administrative Officer Thorn, Assistant Administrative Officer
Thomson, Finance Officer Grant, City Attorney Lindberg, Fire
Chief Lee, Purchasing Agent Stanley, Planning Director Warren
ACTION TAKEN AT BUDGET SESSION - Fire Department
(1) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Mayor Hamilton, and
carried that Administration supply the Council, at the next meeting, after each
day's budget session with a report on the status of the tax rate increase, in
order to obtain a better picture on progress being made during the sessions.
(2) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Hyde, and
carried that one captain and one fireman, for six months, be reinstated in the
amount of $10,180 to the Fire Department budget, and all the rest remain as re-
duced by Chief Lee.
(3) It was moved by Councilman Hyde, seconded by Councilman Scott~ and
carried that $42:425 be restored to the Holiday and Overtime account.
Administrative Officer Thorn suggested that the budget be sent back to
the Fire Department in order for them to delete the $42,425 from other areas,
and bring it back to the Council.
BUDGET SESSION ACTION - Library
(1) It was moved by Councilman Scott: seconded by Councilman Hobel, and
carried that $90,000 be added to the Library budget for books and the City Librar-
ian directed to cut this amount from some other account, leaving the total budget
$305,530, bringing the cuts proposed back to the Council for consideration.
BUDGET SESSION ACTION - Finance Department
Councilman Egdahl absents himself from the meeting.
(1) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Mayor Hamilton, and
carried that a Junior Accountant position be restored to the budget for a full
12 months, adding $5,205 to the budget and that the rest of the Finance budget
be accepted as reduced by the Finance Officer.
BUDGET SESSION ACTION - Purchasing Department
(1) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Mayor Hamilton, and
carried that the recommendations of the Chief Administrative Officer on the budget
for the Purchasing Department be approved in total for an amount of $51,660.
BUDGET SESSION ACTION - Planning Department
(1) It was moved by Councilman Hyde, seconded by Councilman Scott, and
carried that the Planning Department budget be accepted as cut by the Director
of Planning except for the restoration of $1,000 to printing and binding (5212),
for a total cut of $4,820.
BUDGET SESSION ACTION - City Attorney
(1) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Scott, and car-
ried that personal services (1150) be approved as recommended by the Chief Admin-
istrative Officer, in the amount of $48,080.
(2) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Hyde, and carried
that ~ontractural services, cormnodities and capital outlay be approved as presented
with a cut of $500 in professional services (5201), $500 in travel (5221), $200 in
receptions (5222) and $570 in rentals (5231).
BUDGET SESSION ACTION - City Clerk
(1) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and
carried that the City Clerk's budget be approved in total for an amount of
$44,360, with the provision the $8,750 in microfilming (5212) will not be spent
until Administration has convinced the Council of a good microfilming program.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Hamilton adjourned the meeting at 9:45 P.M., sine die.
