OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA
Held Friday June 12, 1970
An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista
was held in the Council Chamber on the above date at 4:00 P.M., with the following
Councilmen present: Councilmen Scott, Hobel, Hamilton, Hyde, Egdahl
Absent: None
Also present: Administrative Officer Thorn, Assistant Administrative Officer
Thomson, Finance Officer Grant, Public Works Director Cole
ACTION TAKEN AT BUDGET SESSION - Public Works
4:30 P.M. - Councilman Hyde left the meeting at this time.
(1) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Scott, and
carried that Public Works Department budget, Traffic Engineering (3130) be accepted
covering all categories, as amended. Councilman Scott suggested changing the name
"critical list" to opportunity list.
(2) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Egdahl, and
carried that the position of Assistant Director of Public Works (3111) be put on
the opportunity list.
(3) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Egdahl, and
carried that the rest of the Public Works Administration (3111) be approved as
submitted.
(4) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and
carried that Public Works training (3112) ba approved as recommended by the Chief
Administrative Officer.
(5) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Egdahl, and
carried that Public Works, Civil Engineering (312~ personal services, contractual
services, commodities and capital outlay be approved with deletions as submitted,
except that the position of assistant civil engineer for one-half year, and a desk,
chair and file for the position, be put on the opportunity list for re-evaluation.
(6) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and
carried that Public Works, Street Operation (3220) be approved in entirety as
amended by the department head, with the position of equipment operator being put
on the opportunity list.
7:15 P.M. - Councilman Hyde returned to the meeting at this time.
(7) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Mayor Hamilton, and
carried that Public Works, Street Cleaning (3240) be accepted with cuts as recom-
mended. Councilmen Scott and Egdahl voted no.
(8) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Egdahl, and
carried that Public Works, Street Lighting (3250) be accepted as submitted.
(9) It was moved by Councilman Egdahl, seconded by Councilman Hyde, and
carried that Public Works, Street Tree Maintenance (3260) be accepted with cuts as
submitted, and that the position of one senior maintenance man and one truck be put
on the opportunity list.
(10) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Scott, and
carried that Public Works~ Equipment Maintenance (3290) be accepted with cuts as
recommended with the reinstatement of $270 to the 5568 account for three drill
motors,
8:00 P.M. - Councilman Egdahl left the meeting at this time.
(11) It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Hyde, and
carried that Public Works, Sewer System Maintenance (3320) be accepted as amended,
with the exception that one dump truck in the amount of $8,870, be placed on the
opportunity list.
(12) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Hyde, and
carried that Public Works, Sewer Income (3330) be accepted.
GAS TAX BUDGET
(1) It was moved by Councilman Scott, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and
carried that the Mayor, as soon as possible, go before the Port Cormnissioners and
find out whether the policy of not building a bridge over the Sweetwater River
Channel, where the north and south portions of Tidelands Avenue are to meet, is
the policy of the Port Director or that of the Port Cormnission.
Councilman Hobet requested more time to study the Gas Tax program before
further deliberations on the matter.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Councilman Hobel that the meeting adjourn to 8:00 A.M.,
Saturday, June 13, 1970.
