SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HEALTHY CHULA VISTA ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA Thursday, February 9, 2017 South Branch Library, Conference Room B 3:30 p.m. 389 Orange Avenue Chula Vista 91911 CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL: Commissioners Cruz, de Murguia, Martinez, Milburn, Partida-Lopez, Quiroz, Velo, Vice Chair Jimenez and Chair Melgoza CONSENT CALENDAR The Board/Commission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one motion, without discussion, unless a Board/Commission Member, a member of the public, or staff requests that an item be removed for discussion. If you wish to speak on one of these items, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior to the meeting. Items pulled from the Consent Calendar will be discussed immediately following the Consent Calendar. 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM January 12, 2017 Staff recommendation: Review Attachment I and approve minutes. PUBLIC COMMENTS Persons speaking during Public Comments may address the Board/Commission on any subject matter within the BoardICommission's.jurisdiction that is not listed as an item on the agenda. State law generally prohibits the Board/Co mission from discussing or taking action on any issue not included on the agenda, but, if appropriate, the Board/Commission may schedule the topic for future discussion or refer the matter to staff. Comments are limited to three minutes. ACTION ITEMS The Item(s) listed in this section of the agenda will be considered individually by the Board/Commission and are expected to elicit discussion and deliberation. If you wish to speak on any item, please fill out a `Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior to the meeting. 2. REACH CHULA VISTA AND BEST PRACTICES IN HEALTH MESSAGE COMMUNICATION Stan Miller of Community Health Improvement Partners (CHIP) will provide a brief overview of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) funded Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) project and Dan Bennett of USCD will summarize the projects communication progress to date and best practices in health messaging. The commission will be asked for their willingness to participate in a success story for the project and the Healthy Chula Vista Initiative. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission hear the presentation. 3. SOUTH BAY HUNGER RELIEF FORUM RECAP Staff will provide an overview of the three forums addressing food insecurity and wasted food recovery in the South Bay area. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission hear the presentation. 4. HEALTHY CHULA VISTA ADVISORY COMMISSION GOAL SETTING FOR FYI Item continued from January 12t' meeting. Staff will summarize Commissioner responses and lead a prioritization exercise on Commission goals, based on the following questions: (1) Where do you see the commission a year from now?; (2) What do you want to learn more about?; (3) What places would you like to visit in our community?; (4) What issues/causes do you want to address?; and (S) What stories/education do you want to share with the community? RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission continue discussion and provide direction to staff of Commission goals for the year and a potential Council report date. GO GREEN, GO CLEAN, GO BIKE EVENT PLANNING Staff will lead a discussion surrounding themes and planning of a "Health Zone" at the April 8fh event. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission provide feedback to staff. OTHER BUSINESS 6. STAFF COMMENTS a. Resilience Screening and Resource Fair February 21" b. City of Champions 7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS 8.
