A Meeting of the Healthy Chula Vista Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 3:35 p.m. in Conference Room B 112, located at 276 Fourth Avenue in Building C, Chula Vista, CA ROLL CALL PRESENT: Commissioners Cruz (arrived at 3:45), de Murgia, Jimenez, Martinez, Milburn, Partida-Lopez (arrived at 3:43), Quiroz and Chair Melgoza ABSENT: Commissioner Velo ALSO PRESENT: Senior Project Coordinator Kurz Deputy City Attorney Silva Office Specialist Sanguinet and Age -Friendly Interns Paul and Oh Scott Tarde, CEO Glenner Centers CONSENT CALENDAR 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM September 8, 2016 Motion by Commissioner Martinez to approve the minutes Seconded by Commissioner Milburn Motion passed 6-0-1 (Cruz not present, de Murguia abstained due to lack of attendance at 919116 meeting) 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM October 10, 2016 Motion by Commissioner Partida-Lopez to approve the minutes Seconded by Commissioner Quiroz Motion passed 7-0 (Cruz not present) PUBLIC COMMENTS None. ACTION ITEMS (all Commissioners present at this point in agenda) 3. GLENNER CENTER ADULT DAY CARE SERVICES AND PROPOSED TOWN SQUARE Scott Tarde of the Glenner Center provided a video overview of the organization, and presentation on a new proposed adult day care site on Broadway and Main called Town Square. 4. HEALTHY CHULA VISTA ADVISORY COMMISSION ROLE (Staff Comments were taken prior to this item) Deputy City Attorney Silva reviewed the municipal code definition of the commission and provided them with examples of roles they could take as advocates over health related issues, stressing that they would need to report Council to take or request the commission take action. The Commission discussion led to the idea of reporting out to Council annually on successes and goals for the coming year. Staff indicated for this first year April would be a good target time to report out. 5. HEALTHY CHULA VISTA ADVISORY COMMISSION GOAL SETTING FOR FYI 7 Staff Kurz led a discussion around goals for the Commission surrounding educational opportunities for media, sharing of resources and events that the Commission could coordinate on. She followed with asking four questions of the Commission and indicated that she would email thein independently for feedback and report to the entire commission at the next meeting on responses: 1. What do you want to learn more about? 2. What places would you like to visit in our community? 3. What issues/causes do you want to address? 4. What stories/education do you want to share with the community? Chair Melgoza added a fifth question for the Commission to consider: 5. Where do you see the commission a year from now? OTHER BUSINESS 6. STAFF COMMENTS (heard prior to Item 42) Staff Kurz provided an update to the following projects: a. "We Are Chula Vista" Photo Campaign ongoing campaign to collect and learn about our community through photography. b. South Bay Hunger Relief Forums will be providing summary of three forums at next meeting. c. Go Green, Go Clean, Go Bike asked the Commission is they would like to create a "Health Zone" at the April 8, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. event. Commissioners indicated they were interested however screenings do not work at these type of events, and they would like to focus on interactive education. Staff Kurz added another event that was not on the agenda for February 21 ", a screening of the fihn Resilience and community discussion surrounding traumatic childhood events and toxic stress. 7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS None, 8. COMMISSIONERSVBOARD MEMBERS' COMMENTS Commissioner Cruz told everybody to save the date of May 20u' for the 2nd annual behavioral Health Resource Fair.
