Naples Court Chula Vista CALL TO ORDER PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL: Commissioners Bailey, Perez, Stewart, Torres, Sears, Mueller and Chair Wunder APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of Minutes Recommendation: Commission approve minutes PUBLIC COMMENTS Guests: Kristi McClure Huckaby, Director of Recreation Stacey Kurz, Age Friendly Communities ACTION ITEMS . a. Chula Vista Veterans Park Brick Program update. Update on Recreation Director, Kristi McClure Huckaby’s discussion with Friends of the Park regarding sharing of the proceeds from the Veterans Brick program with the Veterans Home Foundation. Recommendation: Commission hear the update. b. Age Friendly Communities: Introduction of City of Chula Vista’s membership to the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. This network aims to make communities more accessible for people of all ages and abilities. Efforts include community outreach, to engage citizens and hear their thoughts; and data collection, to establish baseline metrics and track improvement. All of which will contribute to an implementation plan that will help residents age in place. Recommendation: Commission hear the presentation. c. Fallen Veteran Memorial at Memorial Park. Update on New School of Architecture and Design Urban studies class’ VAC proposal for Fallen Veteran Memorial at Memorial Park. Recommendation: Commission hear the update. VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION d. Fallen Heroes Banners at Chula Vista Mall. Discussion on commissioners making contact with management to discuss possible displaying of Fallen Hero banners at Chula Vista Mall. Recommendation: Commission hear the update. e. Commissioner Business Cards request. Discussion on funds request from the City to purchase business cards for commissioners. Recommendation: Commission discuss if request should be submitted to City Council for consideration. f. Chula Vista Veterans Home Annual Golf Classic tournament. Discussion on how commission can promote the event. Recommendation: Commission discuss item. g. Commissioner Perez’s absence from January meeting Recommendation: Commission approve absence. h. Commissioner Bailey’s absence from January meeting Recommendation: Commission approve absence. i. Veteran of the Year 2017 applications. Discussion of 2017 application deadline, advertisement and getting the word out on getting nominations. Recommendation: Commission discuss item. j. Veterans Stand Down Funds Request: Discussion of submittal of funds request to the City to go towards the annual “Stand Down” event for homeless veterans in San Diego. Recommendation: Commission discuss item. k. Veterans Activities Report: Commissioner Torres’ report on Veterans Activities for the month of February 2017.
