A Special Meeting of the Healthy Chula Vista Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 3:34 p.m. in Lauderbach Park Hall, located at 333 Oxford Street, Chula Vista, CA ROLL CALL PRESENT: Commissioners Cruz, Martinez (arrived at 3:50), Jimenez, Milburn, Partida-Lopez (arrived at 3:43), Quiroz (arrived at 3:40), Velo and Chair Melgoza ABSENT: Commissioner de Murgia ALSO PRESENT: Senior Project Coordinator Kurz Office Specialist Sanguinet Age -Friendly Intern Stephanie Oh Principal Recreation Manager Tim Farmer Sharp HealthCare Community Benefits and Health Improvement Program Manager Jillian Barber 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM August 11, 2016 Motion by Commissioner Cruz to approve the minutes Seconded by Commissioner Jimenez Motion passed 6-0-2 (Martinez and Partida-Lopez not present) PUBLIC COMMENTS None. ACTION ITEMS (all Commissioners present at this point in agenda) 2. STATE GRANT APPLICATION FOR NEW ACTIVE RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES AT LAUDERBACH PARK Tim Farmer from the City Recreation Department provided an overview of a State Grant program and the intent to apply for new youth recreational opportunities at Lauderbach Park. 3. HOSPITAL COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT & IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR SHARP HEALTHCARE Jillian Barber from Sharp HealthCare provided an overview of the recently completed Community Health Needs Assessment (CRNA) for San Diego region hospitals programs designed to address community health needs in the Sharp Chula Vista service area. 4. HEALTHY CHULA VISTA ADVISORY COMMISSION ROLE AND GOAL SETTING FOR FYI Staff Kurz provided an overview of the role of the Commission and Chair Melgoza led a discussion on goal setting for this fiscal year. Discussion included the following major points: Education and Advocacy o Involvement: Public Service Announcements, inventory of resources and assist staff with health promoting articles for publication. o Resources: County LiveWell newsletter and calendar, Star News, El Latino, Ella and Our Hometown, Chula Vista Community Collaborative Promotores, Peachjar, Local Government Cable Channel, Community Connections, Libraries and Schools. o Topics: CalFresh enrollment Commission would like to learn more about role and limitations in advocating various issues at a future meeting and continue the discussion regarding the above topics. OTHER BUSINESS 5. STAFF COMMENTS Staff Kurz provided an update to the following projects: a. South Bay Hunger Relief Forums 6. CHAIR'S COMMENTS None. 7. COMMISSIONERS'IBOARD MEMBERS' COMMENTS None.
