HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016/07/12 - Item 5 - Reso A - Election ResultsRESOLUTION NO. __________ RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THIS CITY ON JUNE 7, 2016, DECLARING THE RESULTS THEREOF, AND OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW WHEREAS, a General Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of Chula Vista, California, on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, as required by law, for the purpose of electing one member of the city council, representing District 4, for the full term of four years, commencing in December 2016; and WHEREAS, notice of said election was duly and regularly given in the time, form, and manner as provided by law; and in all respects the election was held and conducted, and the votes cast at the election received and canvassed, and the returns made and declared, in the time, form, and manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the holding of elections in charter cities; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 2016-005, adopted January 12, 2016, the election was consolidated with the statewide primary election, and the Registrar of Voters canvassed the returns of that election and has certified the results. The results are received and made a part hereof, attached as Exhibit 1. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, DECLARED, AND DETERMINED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that: There were 23 voting precincts established in Chula Vista for the purpose of holding the election. The number of ballots cast at Chula Vista polls was 4,855; the number of vote-by-mail ballots cast was 6,570, making the whole number of ballots cast in the City 11,425. The names of the nominees for member of the city council representing District 4 were Mike Diaz, Rudy Ramirez, Eduardo Reyes, and Emmanuel Soto. The City Council does hereby declare that, pursuant to Chula Vista Charter section 300(A)(3), Mike Diaz and Rudy Ramirez will be the candidates in a run-off election for member of the city council representing District 4 on November 8, 2016. The number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes given in the City to each of the persons above named are listed in Exhibit 1, attached. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista a statement of the results of the election, showing the whole number of votes cast in the City, the names of the persons voted for, for what office each person was voted for, and the number of votes given in the City to each person.
