During the time I have served as a committee member of AMPAC, city staff and consultants have done an outstanding job of identifying city assets, assessing their vulnerability and life span and then establishing a management system that provides information and transparency to staff and the public. Throughout this informative and educational process it was quite apparent that Chula Vista along with the majority of cities throughout the nation is behind in addressing infrastructure maintenance and repairs. With Chula Vista currently facing an estimated $600 million dollar need to address current issues, it became apparent that an additional funding source would need to be proposed if the City is to have any hope of resolving this immense problem. Although it is never a popular topic to propose an additional funding source that falls upon the shoulders of the community, the consultant's survey demonstrates that there is greater chance of Chula Vista voters supporting a half -cent sales tax measure versus a general bond issue to jump start the financing of infrastructure repairs. As a business professional that has the privilege of working in Chula Vista, I encourage you to consider supporting a half -cent sales tax measure for the 2016 ballot as the alternative funding source to address the infrastructure challenges that are impacting our city.
