MINUTES
BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
Chair Young suggested the joint meeting should be about the long term goals for all
three groups. Trustee Kalaluhi stated that their original goal was to align the groups'
goals to work together. Each group should be asked; what are you focusing on and
how do we support you. Chair Young thought his questions are a great starting point to
get focused on the same goals.
Trustee Hernandez suggested they talk about their top 3 issues (budget, homeless,
and resources). Chair Young agreed with these topics.
B. Update on School District Partnerships
Vice-Chair Mellor tried to talk to the school district about the partnership but got
bounced around a lot on the phone. She noted that South Bay Community Services
are working with Castle Park and she liked the idea of working with a school that has
fewer resources.
C. Update on "Thinkabit" Lab
Director Waznis thanked Trustee Hernandez for planting the seed for the Thinkabit
Lab. There have been many meetings and fieldtrips with Qualcomm. The Lab is
expected to open in July in the downstairs area of the Civic Center Branch Library. The
school district is going to staff the lab. The Mayor will be involved in the grand opening.
V. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Librarian I recruitment has been extended due to recent promotions. The library is
offering an interview workshop to help the staff improve on their interviewing skills. The
library has a full staff for the first time in a long time. They are working on getting
HotSpots available to the public in efforts of going more high tech.
