Subject: Consideration of amendments to the city's general plan and the Otay ranch
General development plan, including a new deve�opment agreement involving portions
of the
Otay ranch freeway commercial planning area 12.
Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
I have multiple concerns with this proposed change, but the foremost is the loss of what
is the only area left in Chula Vista to be a destination shopping area. The area is being
looked at to be re-zoned for more residential.
. The city really needs more commercial space not more residential. With the re-zoning
of Lake Pointe, Casa Largo and 7000 more residential homes high density being built.
We need more commercial and retail areas for residents. The future of Chula Vista is at
stake. Where are we to shop and eat? Why are we forcing people to buy services from
San Diego?
When the Council approved changing re-zoning Lake Pointe it took away the
commercial area for the community. It has created overcrowding, parking problems and
additional crime. We do not have the services to support more residential.
The logic behind the last re-zoning was to add jobs to Chula Vista. This is not the case.
The focus is for everyone to be able to all to work and shop. This is not possible
because you are taking away commercial. This forces everyone to drive out of Chula
Vista.
It is very important, both financially and for services for its residents, especially the ever_
growing Eastern residence. The incomes in the area show it can support this type of
shopping area. Do not give up on this potential, because it will be lost forever. If it
cannot be done on this site, it will never be done anywhere in the city.
Keep in mind after the re-zoning of Lake Pointe it was admitted an error. Why continue
making errors.
If we are to have a University in this area, we will need commercial for future use.
