ITEM TITLE: Resolution //0e- Com ending Chula Vista High School for its Recent United States
Department of Education Secondary School Recognition Program
Award

This resolution commending Chula Vista High School shall be pre-
sented by the Mayor to the school .
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Resolution

Chula Vista High School has been named a recipient of the United
States Department of Education Secondary School Recognition
Program Award. This award program is based upon nominations from
individual counties to their respective State Department of
Educations. Subsequently, individuals states nominate schools for
consideration to the United States Department of Education. The
Department of Education then examines fourteen specific criteria
relating to academic goals, high expectations of achievement,
order and discipline of students, teacher efficacy, awards for
teacher performance, positive school climate and community support
for school program.
Chula Vista High School was one of four high schools in the County
of San Diego nominated by the San Diego County Department of
Education to the state. The State of California then chose Chula
Vista High School as one of five secondary schools nominated to
the United States Department of Education. The United States
Department of Education visited 263 schools for evaluation of the
fourteen specific criteria listed above . Based upon this evalua-
tion, 114 public high schools from across the United States were
chosen for the award.
