HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1984/08/21 Item 11 COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Item 11 Meeting Date 8/21/84 ITEM TITLE: Resolution //72 Accepting bids and awarding contract for "Construction of Storm Drain Facilities in Fourth Avenue and "L" Street in the City of Chula Vista, California" SUBMITTED BY: Public Works Director/ City Engineer k y L" (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) REVIEWED BY: City Manager Q�l At 2:00 p.m. on August 8, 1984, in Conference Room 5 in the Public Services Building, the City Engineer received sealed bids for "Construction of Storm Drain Facilities in Fourth Avenue and "L" Street in the City of Chula Vista, California" This project was included in the 1983-84 Capital Improvement Program. The work to be done consists in general of constructing drainage facilities which include excavation and grading, asphalt paving, processed miscellaneous base, curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveway approach, installation of various sizes of reinforced concrete pipe, various drainage structures, and other miscellaneous work. RECOMMENDATION: That Council : 1 . authorize the expenditure of $89,700 from Cross Gutter Removal Account "L" and Fourth. 2. accept bids and award contract to Maeak Corp. dba Horizons Construction, San Diego, in the amount of $81 ,565.00. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Bids were received from four contractors as follows: 1. Maeak Corp. dba Horizons Construction - San Diego $81 ,565.00 2. Overson-Rand Enterprises - Lakeside 87,643.00 3. D. L. Muns Engineering & Building Contractors - La Mesa 88,392.79 4. Cass Construction, Inc. - El Cajon 100,878.75 The low bid by Maeak Corp. dba Horizons Construction was above the Engineer's Estimate of $76,780.50 by $4,784.50, or 6.2%. We have reviewed the low bid and find it to be acceptable.
