ITEM TITLE: Resolution Accepting bids and awarding Landscape Maintenance
contracts for Open Space Districts Nos. 1 through 10 for
FY 1984-1985. .�^

During the Sept. 6, 1983 meeting, Council approved Department implementation of
annual bidding of the landscape maintenance contracts for the Open Space
Districts. Prior to that time, an option clause existed in the maintenance
contract allowing the contractor to renew his contract for up to 4 consecutive
years.
Bids to provide landscape maintenance in Districts 1 through 10 were let out
on May 6, 1984 and received on May 23, 1984.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept bids and award contracts to the following
low bidders:
Acacia Landscape Co. for District Nos. 1 ,3,4,8,9, and 10
R.C. 's Landscape Maintenance for District Nos. 2,6, and 7
Cal /Scape for District No. 5
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Sealed bids were received by the City Engineer on May 23, 1984 to provide
landscape maintenance for Open Space District Nos. 1 through 10 for FY 84-85.
The following chart lists the received bids from the various contractors.

Acacia Landscape Co. is the low bidder for District Nos. 1 ,3,4,8,9, & 10
with a total low bid of $50,620. R.C. Landscape maintenance is the low
bidder for District Nos. 2 and 6 with a total low bid of $5,510.
C&C Nurseries and Malcolm/Nicholson were the low bidders for district nos. 5
and 7 respectively, however they currently do not hold a C-27 license as
is required under this contract. The next lowest bid for district 5 was
Cal/Scape at $8,950 and R.C. Maintenance at $1 ,258 for district 7.
Received bids for the ten districts were substantially lower than the current
contract costs. Current maintenance costs total $82,985 (FY 83-84) compared
to the new bid quotes totaling $65,460 (FY 84-85), a reflective decrease of
$17,525.
