RECOMMENDATION: Place ordinance on First Reading BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION : N/A DISCUSSION: At its meeting of May 8 , 1984 , the City Council had before it a proposed amendment to Section 5 .58 .060 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code relating to notice requirements for towing automobiles . The purpose of that amendment was to make it clear that the notice did not apply in emergency situations . 'ust prior to the meeting, the towing operators contacted the Director ,f Public Safety to inform him that they had been unaware of the notice provisions and that if enforced, these provisions would be an unreason- able regulation . It would require them to make two trips prior to towing an illegally parked automobile--one trip for notice purposes and a second trip for the actual towing . There are provisions in the Vehicle Code which already set out notice requirements . Our additional notice provisions are not necessary and we recommend deletion of the entire section from the Municipal Code . The whole area of regulation of private towing will be examined in the future to determine if any further measures are recommended in this area .
