E. Wylie Construction Company in the amount of $2,468,000 to construct the Town Centre Parking Structure. As a result of the bond issue to underwrite the construction, the City Council took over the responsibility to oversee the parking structure construction and subsequent use. Now the structure is being built and there are several changes that are determined necessary to the ultimate goal of a well-structured facility. RECOMMENDATION: That Council approve the attached resolution approving Change Orders 17, 18, 20, and 22 in the amount of $13,888. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Change Order No. 17 Changes were recommended by the consultant soils engineer to modify drainage system by adding drains near footings and all exposed planting areas. $2,160. Change Order No. 18 The architectural plans did not call out an adequate number of deck drains to service the three levels of the parking structure. This omission was found at the time of installation of the precast structural members. That is, the slope of the parking level decks and the number of places where water would collect was noticeable upon field observation. To prevent ponding of water, it was felt that a sufficient number of catch basins and deck drains should be added to the price of construction in order to assure the adequate drainage of the structure at all deck levels. $5,038. Change Order No. 20 The plans did not specify a method of retaining the skylights to the upper and mid-level decks. Rather, the plan details illustrated only the size and location of the skylights. Consequently, it is necessary that a frame be installed so that the skylights shall be attached in such a way that they would be structurally integrated. $3,790. Page 2, Item 13 Meeting Date 11/22/83 Change Order No. 22 At the time of construction, it was found that one cast-in-place shearwall was lacking sufficient height. It was found that this was unintentionally omitted in the original design. The wall was extended to make all wall heights in the structure even. The work has been done in order to avoid delay of the project. $2,900. The total of change orders requested to be approved is $13,888. FISCAL IMPACT: A contingency amount of $125,000 was set aside from the parking structure bond proceeds for the express purpose of funding change orders. The amount of these change orders including the current requested change orders is $54,347, leaving a balance of $70,653 unexpended.
