REVIEWED BY: City Manager
The Unified San Diego County Emergency Services Organization, on behalf of the
Unified Disaster Council, has requested Chula Vista to join other member
cities in calling for solutions to the serious sewage contamination occurring
in the South Bay. This contamination flows from areas south of the
U. S.-Mexican border, affecting the health and economic well-being of the
South Bay region.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt the resolution.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
For many years, the South Bay region adjacent to the U.S.-Mexican border has
suffered from incursions of raw or inadequately treated sewage from Tijuana
and Tecate, Mexico. This long-standing problem has caused and continues to
cause health and economic problems for citizens in the area.
The Unified Disaster Council of San Diego, of which Chula Vista is a member,
has adopted a resolution calling upon state and federal government, and all
involved agencies, to find and implement without delay solutions to the sewage
contamination problems. Chula Vista, along with the other sixteen members, is
requested to adopt a similar resolution.
FISCAL IMPACT: Not applicable.
