As such, the City launched its "Healthy Chula Vista" initiative last year to explore opportunities to better promote health and well -being throughout the community. Specifically, the initiative aims to create policies and programs to improve the city's physical and social environments, promote awareness and access to services, and build community partnerships. With support from a SANDAG Smart Growth Incentive Program grant, the initiative is currently developing draft health - related General Plan amendments (for future Planning Commission consideration) dealing with land use, transportation, healthy food access, health care and prevention, physical activity, and environmental quality. The initiative has been led by an internal team with representatives from Development Services, Public Works, Police, Economic Development, Recreation, Library, and Human Resources Departments. The staff presentation at the February 25th Planning Commission meeting will provide members with a summary of the Healthy Chula Vista initiative, completed stakeholder engagement activities, and prioritized "healthy community" concepts that will provide the framework for the draft General Plan amendments. Attachment (1) HEALTHY CHULA VISTA INITIATIVE Overview CA STA The Healthy Chula Vista Initiative supports the City's Strategic Plan goal of creating a thriving, healthy community by creating policies and programs to improve the City's physical and social environments, promote awareness and access to services, and build community partnerships.
